Capcom clarifies Resi 5 situation

Wishful thinking from Xbox Japan boss?

Capcom has moved to dampen speculation that Resident Evil 5 will appear exclusively on Xbox 360, fuelled by comments last week from Xbox Japan boss Takashi Sensui.

"Resident Evil 5 has been announced for Xbox 360 and PS3 and remains on course for release on both platforms," the game's producer Masachika Kawata said in a statement - and Capcom representatives added that they were under the impression he meant "at the same time" too.

This comes a few days after Sensui refused to deny the game could be rebranded an Xbox 360 exclusive while speaking to our sister site GamesIndustry.biz. "All I can say is we are very good friends with [Keiji] Inafune," he said.

Resident Evil 5 was not shown during the Tokyo Game Show, despite having been announced at a Microsoft next-gen showcase over a year ago.

It was a rubbish story in the first place, guys. See me after school for extra homework.
  • penhalion #4 6 years ago

What is going on with these guys. Is this a behind the scenes case of Sony gives CapCom money for RE5 then M$ trumps with more green. Heck I'd love to be CapCom right now!

I am refusing to deny that I've slept with Angelina Jolie.
  • rhinoxious #6 6 years ago

    Free publicity for Capcom.

Still if it's still on for both 360 and PS3, that makes its non-appearnace at TGS rather dissapointing for resi fans like me.

Hopefully they will show it at X06 still.
  • belziah #7 6 years ago

I can categorically confirm that Whizzo is currently refusing to deny that he slept with Angelina Jolie!!!

I can also confirm that Angelina may or may not be releasing a statement of regret for the hurt caused by Whizzo's refusal to deny that he slept with Angelina Jolie!!!!

In further news I can confirm that Angelina Jolie has slept. With whom and when is still up for speculatution although you can be assured that Microsoft will have a statement out shortly, not denying that they will release a statement soon.

Microsoft never claimed it was exclusive, it was just wrong assumptions made by the gaming media. "We think possibly this might be happening", "oh no hang on, we're wrong, but we'll blame Microsoft for misleading us... erm, even though they did'nt". Just makes Eurogamer look bad for reporting a stupid rumour in the first place.

"Microsoft never claimed it was exclusive,"

If MS wanted to tell the truth all along, they'd have denied it was exclusive.
  • Mordum #12 6 years ago

Microsoft does'nt comment on rumour and speculation. I'm sure you've had that one bfore.

If I were Capcom in a room full of MS and Sony executives I would
be flapping my mouth off saying 'It could be an exclusive...if the price is right!' ;)
I mean,it's always business, not just about the game.
  • Walshicus #15 6 years ago

Stupid journalism on this story is EVERYWHERE. You took the an answer that amounted to "I dunno, ask them. We're good mates so I wouldn't be too surprised." as "Yes, DEFINITELY exclusive!". Why not just accept it was an error on the gaming media's part?
  • smelly #16 6 years ago

No it's not wishful thinking from japan xbox boss.

    It's bad reporting from EG.

All he said was he refused to comment about it. He didnt say yes or no...

Just because someone refuses to comment, doesnt make it a yes!
  • bionutz #17 6 years ago

    LOL @Whizzo.
And yeah, EG should stop reporting non-news.
  • Shinji #18 6 years ago

Sorry chaps, in future we'll be absolutely certain not to report anything except official press releases. Either that or we'll put some kind of test on the stories which we're running clearly labelled as speculation or rumour, so that the hard-of-thinking can't access them - would that help at all? :)

Is Microsoft going to have RE5 as an exclusive?

Is Phill Harrison going to throw himself off the Sony HQ roof shouting "We're fucking doomed!!!"?

Is Kuturagi to perform ritualistic Sepukku with A Nintendo nunchuck via a livefeed on youtube?

Is Kaz Hirai right at this moment putting his entire company stock on 18 Black down at Vegas whilst screaming RIDDGGGGE RACEERRR???

You see, I neither confirmed or denied those statements, only, you know, guided some story hungry journalists' minds towards a bit of creative "joining of the dots..."

Although to be honest, a lump of cheese would have probably done to trick just as well...
  • belziah #20 6 years ago

With all due respect Shinji, just stop printing bullshit.

It was a cynical non-story whose only reason for being was to get hits for your advertisers. The fact that you have readers stupid enough to even get involved in the debate is neither here nor there.

If it really was a 360 exclusive MS would be screaming it from the rooftops, they're not exactly shy in promoting their exclusives(as your "excellent" coverage of the PES 6 shambles will testify to).

Well, I don't know where you get that opinion from. I'm stating that it was'nt what was said from Microsoft that was misleading... but the media's reporting something that was never claimed that was at fault. Some may say well why did'nt Microsoft quash the rumour? well as we all know, they don't comment on this sort of stuff, unlike the media, which causes the problems. Sensui said "All I can say is that we are very good friends with Mr Inafune", somehow that translates as a claim of exclusivity, strange.

Shinji, the subtitle to this story reads "Wishful thinking from Xbox Japan boss?", which is just so wrong, as he never even said it was exclusive, its as if you're saying that it was him who was misinforming people.. and not you. It was this that seemed to be wrong to me, not the running of the story, but the way you titled the article... don't take it so personally, calling us all 'hard-of-thinking' seems a bit off, some PR work needs doing at Eurogamer I see.

    @Mordum

    fair play, sir

but "Microsoft does'nt comment on rumour and speculation." was not the statement made.

No doubt, EG made a meal out of it and the fact that Shinji got indignant is comical, but Sensui san knew exactly what he was saying and how certain journalists would take it.
  • Mordum #23 6 years ago

Yeah I found Shinji's comments a bit of an over the top reaction... maybe the truth hurts, but it would be better to just admit that it was a misleading headline/story. They assumed that a rumour looked to be true, and don't want to admit they were wrong, and then try to spin the blame on some non-existent claims from Microsoft.
