Take Driv3r on the road

New GBA version in the works.

Atari has announced that a Game Boy Advance version of Driv3r is currently in development, and has released some screenshots into the bargain.

Driv3r is being designed by G. Dubail and F. Velez, the team who brought us GBA versions of Stuntman and V-Rally 3. We're promised "a very different gaming experience to the console and PC versions," featuring "complete freedom, huge environments, character and vehicle control and intricate collisions" - all combining to create the most complex GBA title Atari has ever published, apparently.

There are 25 missions to play through in Undercover mode, where you play as renegade cop Tanner as he takes on a load of car thieves. The first half of the game takes place in Miami and the action then moves to Nice - but you won't get to visit Istanbul as with previous versions.

Atari says you can expect exhilarating car chases, incredible physics and, naturally, "high octane action". There are more than 25 vehicles to choose from, seven weapons and 50km of streets to explore in each city, and at any point you're free to take a break from completing missions and take a relaxing drive around town.

There are also secret missions to unlock, and a healthy selection of mini-games including Slalom, Checkpoint, Trailblazer and Destruction.

Driv3r GBA is slated for an autumn release.

Hmmm. Rockstar port GTA3 to PSP. 'Atari' port DRIV3R to GBA. Which one will sell more, d'ya think?

this could be really good. stuntman and v rally are both excellent on the gba.

Have you played Driver on GBA? It's absolute pish.

    Well the shots look lovely

    "Which one will sell more"

Well considering the gba has billions of owners.. i'd say the gba? :-)

"this could be really good. stuntman and v rally are both excellent on the gba."

I really don't see how those two things are connected. If Stuntman and V Rally were good (not played them so I don't know, but I'll take your word on it), it probably had more to do with them NOT BEING UTTER SHITE rather than the platform on which they were released.

Driver 3 does not share that same lineage unfortunately. I would hope that this version will be better, but I doubt I'll ever find out because I like many lost all interest in the Driver series after the last release.

"a very different gaming experience to the console and PC versions"

    Not a tedious GTA wannabe?

Frankly, copping off with Sienna Guillory (cute girl from ResE2 movie for those who have read that thread) and getting bitten in the nuts by an angry dog would both qualify as "a very different gaming experience to the console and PC versions".

But one is generally accepted as being bad, the other almost certainly pretty good. I would hope Driver3 would sit somewhere in between, but I'm honestly worried that it would actually lie just below the "angry dog bit my knackers, says man" headline.

Oh knackers. My eyes and attention span could both clearly do with an overhaul. I just noticed that right near the start of the article, in plain black and white, it says that the people who did Stuntman and V Rally are working on this title.

Sorry about that dadrester, your comments make a shit load more sense now. Must think before opening mouth, as I was probably told numerous times at school all those years ago. What a grumpy git I've been on this forum today.

How about antoher dev interview EG? With peter Molyneux perhaps. With some strategically placed quotes from him about "some of the visions I've had", you might actually make me explode :/

Plus I do actually quite like the dev interviews, as I'm sure a good portion of your readers do too.

i would cream myself over an interview with Molyneux. He always comes up with some strange stuff ^^.
