SEGA Europe cues up snooker titles for next-gen, PSP News

PlayStation 2 PSP News by Tom Bramwell

27 April, 2006

That explains that then! SEGA Europe's followed up SEGA of America's earlier announcement of PS2/PSP pool titles for the US market by announcing World Snooker Championship 2007 for PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360, along with World Snooker Challenge 2007 on PSP.

(Unfortunately for us, we were so damn quick we wrote an entire news item about the US release in-between, and then had to yank it down. Fiddlesticks!)

WSC2007 features 104 of the world's top snooker players and ten official tournaments - so you can try and relive that stuff you idly flicked to on TV last Sunday when there was no football on.

In development at series mainstay Blade Interactive, WSC2007 also features all sorts of versions of pool (by the sound of it, it's giving you the entire US game as a sort of bonus) with the best players, ten major tournaments including the Mosconi Cup, eight-ball and nine-ball and other variants - as well as a Trickshot Championship.

There's also a Golden Cue mode allowing you to mix up different cuesports (good word) - stuffing Ronnie O'Sullivan at pool rather than snooker, for example, and perhaps using your own customised character to do so.

All four versions are due out this autumn and will be shown off at E3.

Meanwhile, over in the US, SEGA's releasing World Pool Championship 2007 on PS2 and World Pool Challenge 2007 on PSP - for which we have some separate screenshots. You can see how the snooker versions are shaping up in our PSP and next-gen galleries.

SEGA's run of pre-E3 game announcements has already seen confirmation of Virtua Tennis 3 for PS3/X360 and Monkey Ball for Revolution, with more expected in the coming days.

Erm, and surely a Rev version of snooker/pool isn't out the question...? Why tap strength meter buttons when you can accurately choose the power of your shot!? ;o)

I hope they're saving all the really good announcements for closer to E3. :-/
