Battlefield 2 patch plans

Co-op for solo levels, more.

The next Battlefield 2 patch will introduce networked and online co-operative options for single-player levels and airdropped vehicles, among other things.

That's according to a community update to EA's Battlefield 2 site, which also lists a few of the bug-fixes patch 1.3 will deal with.

The co-op stuff will allow you to play BF2's single-player levels with a mixture of human and AI players, and there'll be server options to modify bot behaviour, too. Presumably of the form "stop nicking Mugwum's helicopter you sod". [Check]

Anyway, the 1.3 patch will apparently be assembled "in preparation" for the release of the Armoured Fury booster pack. So let's hope it doesn't end up setting that back like the last patch derailed Euro Force for ages.

Either way you should get some improvements out of it, and EA/DICE urges: "Keep in mind this is only a part of what 1.3 will include. Our live team is working diligently to provide the best update possible in preparation for the release of the Armored Fury booster pack!"

We'll let you know when they finish.

    "Co-op for solo levels"

This has sold me the game. Played the mp demo, was very impressed. The addition of co-op missions is exactly what ices the cake for me.

Great move EA (now I have to go brush my teeth after saying that ;) )

Ah, have I jumped the gun here. I assume (in an optimistic sort of way) that the XB360 version will get the same treatment?

Sweet, can't wait to start playing some BF2 again after my degree!

er...maybe I'm being dim here, but aren't the single player levels identical to the the multiplayer? On the PC anyway.

Whats the point of playing co-op when you are 'supposed' to play co-op during multiplayer?

The way I read it on the EA site is that the Co-op mode will just allow you to compete against Bots online...

you could do this when it first came out anyway (well over LAN)
Start a LAN session and have who you want bring up your server in the browser window. Don't have them join.
Now let the host quit out and start a single player game with bots.
Now when the map is loaded, without refreshing the server list, have your mates join your server and they will jump into your single player game!
An odd bug that we found last year, haven't tried it since it was patched.

I hope they patch the 360 version, my tanks keep getting stuck on barrels and they can't bash blown up car, tank, jeep debris out of the way. really annoying

And if you keep voting for the same two maps (backstab & bridgetofar) your automatically band from playing online for a week. boring arse bastards, had the game for over a week and keep playing the same god damn levels

Scurrminator: Tried it, it's a horrible, buggy, crashy way of getting co-op! So Glad we'll be able to use bots on LAN properly now!

Co-op was a favourite of mine in 1942...was disappointed it never made it to number 2. You can always guarantee a good time in co-op, especially over LAN, as you don't have to worry about p**sing anyone off, and the bots actually do what they're supposed to.

Don't get me wrong, I love the online game, and its SO much fun to outwit HUMAN opponents, but when theres only a couple of you, co-op is the way.

Incidentally, is no one else exited about the idea of airdrop vehicles? Sounds like a much needed Commander ability. Brings new meaning to the 'requesting reinforcements' ability, though I can see it being taken advantage of (eg, commander jumps into uncappable base)

In all, bring it on! This may well get me back into BF2!

Funny, seemed to work fine for us. Will be nice to have it in officially though.

edit: The single player co-op trick method, that is.

"but when theres only a couple of you, co-op is the way"

Absolutely. Co-op with 2 or three people is always fun (assuming the game is good that is). Deathmatch with 2 or 3 never really takes off after a game or two.
