CS Source: prettier train News

PC News by Tom Bramwell

25 August, 2006

As promised, Valve has given classic Counter-Strike map de_train a lick of High Dynamic Range paint. Well, lighting. As well as fixing some bugs and making some layout tweaks.

The new version forms part of a Steam update released yesterday, which also enhances the radar display, and better matches the player's eye height while crouched with how it looks in-game. Neat.

You can also now see the weapon in SourceTV's first-person view, and mumble mumble assorted exploits have been sorted out mumble mumble. See you online tonight and RUN WITH THE KNIFE PLEASE.

HOW LONG did it take to sort that? Like five years? :-)

I was just about to say the same thing....it's about bloody time! The amount of times I've crouched cleanly behind a wall only to have my head shot off is unbelievable and often makes me hate this game.

Had a blast at lunch: The new mini-map/radar is very shiny. You can see friends, who has the bomb, bomb sites, and any enemy that a team-member targets.

Feels a bit weird ducking down now, as you sit so much higher.

oooh, you camper you! :-)

But chances are that even if you were hidden behind said wall, a bit of lag at the server could mean you still get shot (as another player might see you still standing up, or indeed in another room).

The jusry is stil out on the new radar as far as I'm concerned - it really changes how the game is played.

Sounds like some good changes, though the less HDR the better IMO. Never have it turned on, it looks awful.

Hehe, I wish that was the case, but it wasn't...the most recent time, a guy in front of me got sniped by someone with an AWP, so I purposely crouched and continued moving behind the wall, so it was a good few seconds.
