FFXI for X360 gets an update

And 2000 players get banned.

A new update which allows players to unlock achievements has just been released for the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XI.

According to the update notes, "After fulfilling certain requirements, players will be able to speak with title-changing NPCs to unlock Xbox 360 "achievements."

"In the case where players have no titles available to change, they will be unable to unlock any achievements."

In addition, you'll now see a black border when viewing the map, and map co-ordinates are supposed to be easier to read.

For the PC version, there have been various event, battle, system and item-related changes - once again, you'll find full details on the update notes page.

It's not just the update that Squenix has been busy with of late, oh no. They've just banned or suspended more than 2000 accounts belonging to players believed to be using "malicious" third-party programs.

In a statement, the publisher said: "A number of accounts which were confirmed to have violated the user agreement by using unauthorised third-party software tools within Final Fantasy XI to enable abnormal in-game movement were discovered and have been suspended or permanently terminated.

"We would like to take this time to remind our players that the use of any third-party tools will not only destroy the in-game balance, but will also encourage RMT (Real Money Trade) activities."

Apparently they intend to take "strict actions" against anyone using such tools in the future, too. So be warned, filthy gold farmers.

Shame they can't come up with an update that stops it eating half of your hard drive.

I know of no one who owns this game. Banning 2000 players might be the entire user base.
  • rinoaMW #3 6 years ago

no - there is between 500k - 1mil players. 2k is not a big loss for the community, esp. if all they were are big stinking cheaters :p

*shakes fist at Eurogamer* I realise that having X Box 360 in the title will draw traffic, but the update content is the same for PC and PS2 and 360 - aside from the map tweak and 'achievments' thing.

Still, I should be glad of any news on my beloves MMORPG on EG.

What about the mission update and Chocobo Breeding that are due out later this week(ish)?

Third Party tools & Gil sellers: This is the same argument of 'buying pirate DVDs supports international crime syndicates and drug smuggling." Those who were banned used speed hacks to make themselves run faster, not to farm gil.
Ban the gil farmers instead, ffs.

    ^ lol.

I have it on the PC and since the release in Europe the game is, shall we say, no longer known for it's friendly community.

Ban the French is what I say.

I thought something along this line, then realised Square banned 2000 FFXI accounts, but not necessarily x360 ones (probably PC, since it's easier to exploit).

I'm pretty sure the 1mil milestone was hit about a year and a half ago. I'd guess we're looking at more like 2mil now considering the X360 release.

Indeed all the smelly dirty cheats who got banned I know of used PC. One had 5 level 75 jobs, 100 Blacksmithing skill and had played since US Release. And there is still the smug player in a Wedding Dress standing in Batillia Downs offering to sell me Byakko Trousers for 20 Million gil. /sigh

The unfriendly people I know of are Japanese, tbh, I speak as a PC player who played before EU release. Another friend invited a Japanese player to a party we were making the other week, and the response was {No Thanks} {English} {meat Dishes} {see you again!} I'll log on tonight, and my group will go HNM camping. And the same Japanese group will be there, camping at 5 am their time. /sigh indeed.

2,000 Xbox 360 players have been banned?!? I didn't even think that many Xbox 360 owners played it!!!

The ones who were banned were not specifically X360 users. In fact, I imagine all were PC users.

And despite their announcement, I can really draw no parallel between 3rd party programs and RMT. For one thing, SE need to sort themselves out and release their OWN version of windower if they expect people not to use the 3rd party one. I'm sorry, but not allowing people access to their PCs while playing a game which is DESIGNED to be played for hours at a time is simply unacceptable in this day and age. Sort it out SE.

However, I realise that this is not the 3rd party program that people were banned for - Windower is, as far as I am aware, undetectable outside of the client. Its the abnormal movement (fleetool and POS hacker) that people were banned for, and this is 100% right and proper, and my only complaint is that it wasn't done earlier and more often. However, even in this regard, where does it relate to promoting RMT? It is certainly not exclusively used by RMT (I would hazard that more 'regular' players use it.) What it does is *similar* to what RMTs do - it leads to unfair control over the NM and HNM market (although RMT usually do this with pure numbers, or claim bots - which many HNMLSs also use). However, similar symptoms certainly don't promote RMT. To promote RMT it must do one of two things - it must either:

    1) Create a demand for the gil that they sell
    2) Create an opening for them to exploit

Now, the closest link I can draw to either of these is the rather tenuous: If people use 3rd party tools, then they become popular, then they become readily available, then RMT find them, RMT use them, RMT is promoted. The whole thing doesn't make much sense to me.

What I think is rather more likely is that SE are using RMT as a buzzword in order to scare people away from using 3rd party tools, even casually. Which, I suppose (after all that), is fine. Assuming they don't start banning Windower users.

On a final note: another patch gone, another complete failure to recognise the fact that Summoning Magic Skill is at the same time the hardest skill to raise in the game (other than fishing), and the most completely useless skill in the game. It does nothing! Sort it out, SE.

I think this news post should be ammended as it seems to refer specifically to xbox360 yet the hacks in question seem to have been form PC users.

What third party apps are available on the 360 to do something like this ? has it got an action replay device yet?

"Batillia Downs offering to sell me Byakko Trousers for 20 Million gil."
Dunno how they're going to manage that, they can't be traded. The old item of god gear that can be if Kirin's Osode.

There has been some complaints on the difficulty of getting the achivements for the 360, not all of them are know yet but so far the ones discoverd are:
1 Achievement for getting each job to level 75.
1 For getting each nation to Rank 10
1 For completeing all Rize of Zilart missions
1 For completeing all Chains of Promethia missios
1 For getting 100+ levels in crafting
    1 For clearing Dynamis-Xarcabard
    1 For clearing Limbus

Ouch - that is quite harsh.
