Killer 7 creator does PS3 game News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

25 April, 2006

Killer 7 creator Suda Goichi is working on a PlayStation 3 title called Kurayami, which means "Darkness" in Japanese.

Appropriately enough it's about someone stuck in a strange village with a torch; the player takes control and has to solve puzzles and deal with general weirdness to find his way out.

Details are scant, but w eknow Goichi will be working with regular pals Grasshopper.

An Edge feature on Grasshopper - the source of the reports, and home to some interesting concept art - also talks about the developer's professed Kafka influence.

Expect a bit of weirdness then - anyone who played Capcom's Killer 7 will already know the sort of thing Goichi's capable of, while those with a Nintendo DS may already be on the lookout for another of his games, Contact, in which the player tries to find the scattered pieces of an alien professor's power-source.

If he's mentioning Kafka as an inspiration then he better not let the player be able to control several different characters. Unless these characters serve as some sort of analogy.

But as I read he mentioned Kafka's the trial as an inspiration and that's something of an inner journey if anything. So don't just tack on some rubbish gameplay if you have such high aspirations.

Ok never mind above comment. Based on The Castle and not The Trial and that does change matters.

Unfortunately, another press release mentions the village in question is Alderton, in Gloucestershire and your torch is one of those little keyring things you use to find your car door keyhole when you're pished. ;)

The concept paintings are actually really interesting plus the ideas he has concerning the Darkness itself seem great.

If he can pull it off then its going to be another reason to love Suda 51

The Trial, wow. I have no idea how that could be made into a game. Truly.

The concept art in Edge looks lovely - the creator says he wants the game to look like that in motion. If they managed to get it looking like that, it'd be sweet.

It's actually inspired by The Castle, not The Trial.

i can't believe you lot are sayin dat about killer 7, obviously it's ure own opinion as is mine but i bet sum of u haven't even played it and if u have u didn't get past the first stage. to judge a game on little gameplay is idiotic, wat does dat make u, ye fuckin idiots. Killer 7 was different, it was a huge risk by capcom which i don't think payed off for them.
But i enjoyed playing it and completing the game while tryin to make sense of the intriguin story. It pisses me off how people can slam a game that tries something different and in some peoples eyes, suceeds

We don't know yet. Whatever it turns out as, I think it probably won't be resembling a "Silent Hill clone", or more correctly an "Alone in the Dark clone".

Killer 7 was rubbish.

Or, it was actually brilliant and you just didn't get on with it. :) Yes, it was deliberately monologue-heavy, but that's part of the beauty. Not all entertainment has to be immediately satisfying.
