Pacino is the face of, er, Scarface
Major-league cast of stars signs on for latest movie to game foray.
A wide range of Hollywood talent has been announced for Vivendi Universal Games' forthcoming adaptation of gangster movie Scarface, with Al Pacino's likeness - although not his voice - set to be used for the iconic central character.
Original actors from the movie Steven Bauer and Robert Loggia will join a voice cast which includes James Woods, Miguel Sandoval, Robert Davi, Michael Rappaport and Michael York along with comedians Jay Mohr and Cheech Marin.
Rather than retelling the story of the classic Brian DePalma film, the game begins with the climactic shoot-out at the end of the movie and allows players, as Tony Montana, to survive the battle - before returning to the streets to rebuild his drugs empire.
It's not clear whether the decision to use Pacino's likeness but not his voice came from the actor himself or from within Vivendi, but it has been pointed out that his voice sounds very different now to how it did when the movie was made in 1983.
"Al Pacino brought the character of Tony Montana to life onscreen in a very powerful way, and the inclusion of his likeness as Tony Montana is a critical component to the authenticity of the Scarface game experience," according to VU Games' chief strategy and marketing officer, Cindy Cook.
"We are also thrilled to have other top-notch talent involved with Scarface: The World is Yours," she continued, "as their participation will add further substance and depth to the characters featured in the game."
The Radical Games developed title is due to be shown off in public for the first time at E3 in Los Angeles next month, and will be published on PS2 and Xbox later this year.
