Postal gets digital distribution

RWS says HA! to censors.

Running With Scissors has made controversial PC title Postal, along with its sequel and expansion pack, available for download.

Which means you can now get yourself a copy of the game even if you live in one of the 13 countries where the game is banned, such as Australia, New Zealand and Korea.

The first Postal game caused outrage amongst anti-videogame campaigners when it was first released in 1996, but despite this - and the fact that it was utterly rubbish - it went on to sell more than 1 million copies.

Now, thanks to a new deal with digital distributors Softwrap, the Running With Scissors online store is offering the Postal games for download, priced at $10 for the original title or $19.95 each for the sequel and add-on. As a result, according to a company statement, "There isn't a country or place on earth that can stop you from getting these hard to find game titles."

"Softwrap gives Running With Scissors the ability to deliver Postal games to every human being regardless of their state of freedom," said RWS CEO Vince Desi.

"Governments, customs agents or other traditional barriers to going Postal will become irrelevant as the Softwrap system sidesteps distributors, retailers and other would-be gate keepers to deliver the game anywhere and everywhere. "

"From the land Down Under to the mountains of Korea, the world can now go Postal in peace and privacy, as God intended. We're just glad that at last responsible kids and irresponsible adults the world over can now get their paws on the most blacklisted and banned game of all time!"

Goodo.

You can almost hear Jack Thomspon rubbing his hands together with glee/banging his head against the walls of his padded cell

..good god, yes. There's very little Mr. Thompson can do about this, isn't there...

    Nontheless, it's really RUBBISH!!!

I hate these people. With all of my heart.

Nothing governments like better than companies circumventing their laws and being smug about it. Erm...

This is going to sound very sad,but with my very sick sense of humour, playing the sequel was a bit of a laugh.

I can't believe how irresponsibly smug he sounds.
It's people like this who threaten the self-regulation of our industry.
If law makers see that there is a risk of developers/publishers breaking the codes of conduct with respect to ratings and distribution to minors, then they are more likely to push through more draconian legislation.

Then we'll be able to thank Vince Desi for not only foisting excrement disguised as entertainment on us but compromising our ability to rate our own products maturely and sensibly.

The sad thing is that the sequal had some good level design in it, shame it was ruined by a plot designed to upset people, and a terrible game engine.

I've never heard the first game described in negative terms, sure it was offensive-for-the-hell of it, but If you overlooked that it was supost to be a half decent game... I thought...

the game wasn't rubbish at all, at least, the first one. you realy had to hide behind cover and use the weapons skilfully or you'd die in an instant. quite a good game.

the sequel is a good game for would-be arsonists ... run all over the inside of a building with the petrol can pouring it all over and then get up top and light it.

its best to do this in the bank. its just fun.

Yeah he's a cock, but I like the way he said 'Level of Freedom'. Now thats a context the Daily Mail don't want it put into. Even still perhaps provoking governments is not a good idea especially as cencorship of the internet is looking like a possibility.

A pity that they don't offer the first game for free download, like Rockstar with the old GTA titles. I'd like to replay it, rubbish as it may be, but there's no way I'll part with 10$ to do so (even if I had the means, I'll assume it requires a CC).

And rubbish it was. The background "art" was quite hideous in places, if I remember correctly... the ending was deliciously psychopathic, though. :)

Hideous? The background art was very cool. Nice handdrawn style. The game as a whole was very cool, if quite flawed. No dumb joke style as seen in Postal 2 to be had anywhere in number one either, just dead serious psycho massacre. woh. Great.
