Stubbs gets a PAL

In 06, despite THQ's original PR.

THQ's set to distribute Wideload Games' Stubbs the Zombie: Rebel Without A Pulse on Xbox and PC in PAL territories, the publisher announced in conjunction with US outfit Aspyr this afternoon. It turns out we'll be able to pickle Stubbs' brain next February - THQ had originally indicated the game would be out in November.

Stubbs, an original effort from veterans of Halo developer Bungie and built with that game's engine, puts the player in control of the zombie Stubbs, who mauls various humans and eats their brains to keep up his strength - adding former humans to his zombie horde.

As we remarked at E3 this year, Stubbs has a wicked sense of humour - you can detach your arm and send it scurrying off to investigate areas you haven't explored yet, and even use it to take direct control of a hapless human's brain.

Reviews from the US, where it's just been released, mostly, um, 'chews' a positive angle. We'll kill ourselves and let you know what we think next February.

A few people over at www.rllmukforum.com have "obtained" & played this. Then slaughtered it.

Hope they're wrong - I was really looking forward to it.

My mates dads brothers sister obtained this the other day and according to him it's not-all-that. Character movement is painfully slow and it just doesnt feel right. Shame as it is a pretty good concept.

Oh yeah! Now we even let pirates write reviews!

Sounds nice, but then, most of them do...

    Will wait and see.

Sounds good but apparently very short.

I'm lovin' this one. Really gory and quite funny. Can't argue with something that lets you rip off a riot cops arm and beat him to death with it, then watch him eat his comrades brains. Not sure why it's been slated.

Hes a frikkin zombie, what else did you expect? A zombie on steroids?

I know a puigin that got a secret copy from some dads brothers sister over at some wannabehackers webby and played it, he says its an oke game. Shhhh, dont tell anyone. ......

Too slow? They're bloody zombies, not sprinters.
Oh, and the game is now NOT due this year. It's been delayed until February 06.
  • richardiox #12 6 years ago

Alright, yes I appreciate the painfully slow walking around / jumping in this game is because it's a "realistic" portrayal of Zombie movement. However, it doesnt change the fact that my mates dads brothers sister got incredibly annoyed at how long it took just walk accross the game areas. Maybe a "run" button becomes available later on I dont know but it just seemed slow to the point of being annoying.

    fuck! february? shit!
  • PearOfAnguish #14 6 years ago

Fluffy, try it. I think it's a great game, "the zombie walks too slow" is an odd complaint, we're not talking about him wandering across GTA-size levels. You get to possess people with a disembodied hand, or fart them to death or watch a zombie with no legs pull itself toward you when you whistle.

Good to hear a few "early adopters" are enjoying it - I don't d/l games so I'll wait for a proper review or 10 before I decide whether or not to go for it. Then I'll wait for it to be £10 at Play.com...
