Tiger Woods and NFSU are PSP launch titles

And both will support wireless multiplayer.

EA's Tiger Woods PGA Tour and Need For Speed Underground titles for PlayStation Portable will make up part of the system's launch line-up, EA chief financial officer Warren Jenson revealed at an investor conference in the US yesterday.

The Need For Speed title (called NFSU Rivals on Sony's Japanese games list) will feature 10 tracks and other new content and modes designed for wireless multiplayer. Tiger Woods will also feature wireless multiplayer, and 12 courses in total.

The PlayStation Portable, which is playable at the Tokyo Game Show this weekend, is due out in Japan later this year (at least that's the aim; Sony has been reluctant to outline specifics so far), and should be with us in Europe in early 2005. Neither Tiger Woods nor Need For Speed will be playable at TGS, but both will be on display in trailer form.

NFSU was not that good after all. Weak game for launch, reminds me of Ridge Racer launch for PS2, that wasn't a good one either.

Mmm-hmm. Two more to 'not put on the list', then.

Actually that's probably a bit mean. Tiger should be alright, at least.

Looks like were in for *cutting edge* entertainment on the PSP then, eh?

Thanks very much EA for exploring the prospects of a new platform by releasing games that are already out, but with a couple of new tracks/courses.

Come on - Make an effort.

Well as Need4Speed was the top selling game last year what the hell do you expect EA to release.. Catwoman?

notice all the latest screenies look a lot less impressive than those released at E3. especially mg acid.

Nfanboy. Of course its gunna have f**kin ports. Its a Playstation Portabele. Notice, its a playstation.

Whats wrong with porting the most successful games from one playstation to another? You dont expect PS3 to have a GT and GTA? You expect EA to drop all their successful selling titles? You really do spout utter utter rubbish. You expect Nintendo not to port all their licenses to DS?

The MG Acid 3D content itself looks the same from early to later shots to me. The 2D presentation isn't so great and minor 3D presentation like the items held in wireframe cubes has been dropped though which looked very tasty.

I take your point, but it would be nice if they announced something NEW for the NEW console. Tell us about Need for Speed next week or something!

el_pollo_diablo, agreed, would like to see some new ideas coming out. But it is essentialy a portable version of the PS2 slightly stripped down, so id imagine there will be alot of ports. I also imagine its what alot of the potential customers would want. I know if they can get the GTA series running nicely it could be something that tempts me towards a purchase.

NFSU sold very few copies in Japan on the PS2 and Gamecube, I don't think things will change for the PSP. The game did sell well in the US across all platforms, but sadly the PSP won't hit America for at least another 6 months.

Remember that E3 had only PC emulators running supposed PSP spec code so expect things to tone down on a screen with a lower resolution. I think that early games will be using minimal power because of fears that run-time will be low.

And also no PS2 developer wants to have PSP conversions outshine their IP. What i've seen is pretty close to the PS2 and in some areas it does better. Oh and that pukka LCD screen is still shining like a beacon of light through all the negative fog!
