GC: Sony hasn't ruled out PSP hard drive - Reeves News

Sony Europe boss David Reeves says the company hasn't ruled out introducing a hard disk drive to PlayStation Portable despite the upcoming launch of PSP Slim and Lite.
"I think that it certainly is not ruled out," Reeves told Eurogamer in an interview published today.
"The only thing I would say is that the flash memory is simply so cheap - you can get an 8GB Memory Stick for under 100 Euros, and on 8GB you can get a lot of content."
"I think the big debate is - there's a point in time when you have to put a stake in the ground and say we're going to go with flash memory or we're going to go with hard drive. I don't think they've put that stake in the ground just yet," he added.
"So they're thinking about it - I think they'll get through Christmas and think about what the next step would be. You might hear more later."
Reeves also said that Sony's decision to launch service-based products for PSP at Leipzig - including satellite navigation and video-on-demand - won't stop the company investing in games software, which it's aware it needs to do.
What's more, Reeves echoed comments made at E3 that he expects some of it to come via PlayStation Network, like Calling All Cars. Asked if he sees PSN as a potential feeder service to PSP, and vice versa, he said: "Yeah, it will be."
"On PSN you get an instant reaction - 'Calling All Cars, great game, okay, can I have it on PSP?' Okay, why not?"

Yep, would seem a backwards step to be talking about hard drives for all the above reasons pointed out, plus what do they mean, some kind of add on that attaches to the PSP body... not so good really, tacky and well.. very add-on-ish. super large flash memory for the win! :p
P.S WHY are they calling the redesigned one the 'Slim & Lite'. I kept reading that on Eurogamer and wondered why they were introducing two new models, the slim, and the lite. Lol. Got me confused, and I generally know what's happening in this industry, what about all the poor people out there wondering what the difference in the Slim and the Lite models is :p (or okay, maybe I'm just dull). |

CitizenHunter, I got confused as well, but, now, I've figured that out. They are calling it Slim because people wouldn't notice it is slimmer anyway and Lite because the name refers to NDS Lite and they want to steal some of its thunder :)
PS. Do we have concrete info on its EU price? I've read something about 199€, but that could be for the limited Spiderman/Simpson's ones...

If what happened before with 4GB cards is anything to go by, 8GB are likely to come out with a 120€ - 160€ tag.

As would cacheing (sp?) part of the game to the memory stick, and also the PSP Slim/Lite's extra memory - specifically included to reduce loading times. Why developers have yet to include 'cache to memory stick' options in their games is beyond me though. |
