Halo movie to shine in 2007?

Plus, triple pack for Xbox?

The film translation of Microsoft's somewhat-popular sci-fi based first-person shooter franchise Halo has been given an official 2007 launch target by Universal and 20th Century Fox, according to a report in entertainment publication Variety.

In an agreement between the three companies, Universal will oversee the movie's production and domestic distribution, while Fox controls its foreign provision. The two film studios will split the revenues equally, while paying Microsoft $5 million and 10 per cent of the film's gross. The Halo movie is being produced by Peter Schlessel, and has been written by 28 Days Later and The Beach scribe, Alex Garland, who was said to be paid $1 million to write the script.

The current agreement follows an initial dispute between the studios and Microsoft, where a request of a $10 million advance, 15 per cent of the film's gross and creative control were demanded. The settlement now allows Microsoft "extensive" consultation on the project, but no approval over any of the film elements. However, several members from the game's development team, Bungie, will serve as Microsoft's creative consultants.

Variety goes on to suggest the possibility of the movie being synchronised with the release of a new Halo title during 2007.

In related news, EB Games in North America is currently listing a Halo Triple Pack title for Xbox, which includes Halo, Halo 2, and the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack for $60, set for an October 4th release. Microsoft was not available for confirmation at time of writing, nor to confirm the pack will be available in the UK.

Halo Movie and Halo 3 released at same time then? Wouldn't be a bad move for Microsoft. Even if the film might turn out cack.

Sort of related, I hear that the Halo3 release date will purposely coincide with the release of the PS3. Sneaky, but clever. If its true that is.

Looks like you will see the flood... main reason they like Alex Garland for his work on 28 days.

I just don't really wanne see MC take his helm off....

Many sites today are reporting that it'll be out to coincide with the film.

End of the day: nobody has a clue when it'll be out, so everyone's guessing. :-)

Not sure why anyone would want a Halo movie. The games are (fun as they may be) just badly written schlocky, cliched, wannabe scifi with a faceless lego-man as the hero. As for all the Covenant stuff... two hours of big CG things talking to other big CG things is a sure way to make a crap movie.
  • Kiigan #14 7 years ago

Oh as for Halo 3, I'm pretty sure Bill Gates said in an interview that he wanted it to launch on the same day as the PS3.

    [/INSERT HORRIBLE JOKE]
Bungie & MS have requested that Universal are film the movie at 30fps (rather than 24) just cause it's too much extra work interpolating excess frames. Also all reviewers must be bribed so it will score a 8.1/10 so it will be better than HALO, as it sets the new "better than HALO" benchmark.
    [/END JOKE]

Seriously I cannot think of any console/PC movie/game tie in that was actually good, all I keep coming back to is the old Star Wars New Hope movie and Atari's arcade vector game conversion that was very popular in the early '80s.

Can anyone think of any other descent games->movies, or vice versa (don't say E.T. that's not funny).

    Cheers

    Movie > Game

Star Wars New Trilogy > Lego Star Wars
Star Wars Original Trilogy > Super Star Wars
    Goldeneye > Goldeneye
    Alien Trilogy > Alien Trilogy
Street Fighter (Manga) < Street Fighter II
    Ghostbusters > Ghostbusters

    Err...

    [EDIT] Techno-wizardry / Spazzery.

I didn't know that 'horrible' could also mean 'entirely free from humour'!
  • knif3r #18 7 years ago

this could be the perfect opportunity for van Damme to make his comeback

    I'm behind ya vD!!!!
  • deaner #19 7 years ago

Uninteresting Fact #153: Jean Claude Van Damme was the guy originally cast to play the Predator in Predator. He got himself fired by complaining about the role.
  • mcmonkeyplc #20 7 years ago

  • davyuk #21 7 years ago

Of course they'll show his face. And no doubt he'll have a love interest, and in some scene talk about 'that time' he lost a whole platoon to the covenent because he 'played by the rules'.
