Lara Croft finds her voice

It belongs to Zoe off Spooks.

Just a week after unveiling the new real life incarnation of Lara Croft, Eidos has announced who will provide her voice for forthcoming title Tomb Raider: Legend.

And the winner is... Keeley Hawes, otherwise known as Zöe off of Spooks. Hawes has also appeared in feature film A Cock and Bull Story with Steve Coogan and two episodes of Pie in the Sky, amongst other things.

"Lara Croft is such a strong and powerful character, but she also has an edge to her, which was great to portray vocally," Hawes said.

"Lara is getting up to all sorts of trouble in Legend, I am sure the fans won't be disappointed!" Let's hope so, Keeley, but that's what they said about Angel of Darkness!

Eidos bigwig Matt Gorman said Hawes was "perfect" for the role of Lara, adding: "She had the right balance of aristocracy and attitude to really bring to life Miss Croft in all her glory."

Understandably, Hawes' fans are thrilled at the announcement - in a poll over on the Keeley Hawes forum, 100 per cent of voters have supported the decision! Yes, both of them!

Tomb Raider: Legend is out on PC, PS2 and Xbox on April 11th, with PSP and Xbox 360 versions to follow soon after.

She's got a great voice, realy posh but with a subltle saucyness that says "I may be well spoken, but between the sheets I'm Fire, and proper dirty to boot!"

A marvelous choice for Ms Croft

    Oh and FIRST

I feel like a nerd for saying it... but that really is win button.

She has a fan forum? She's not exactly an A list celeb - and they call video game players geeks!!

Still, good choice of voice though.

She was also in Tripping the Velvet - or whatever it was called. You know, the lesbos things on BBC2 a year or so back.

So in a Daily Star association kind of way : Official - Croft is lesbos

Over 9 million people watched Spooks, it's a mainstream terrestrial drama. Compare that to the biggest-selling videogame in the UK and you can see that gaming is still a (vocal) minority.

Urm, didn't they announce Rachel Weisz(sp) as the voice of Lara Croft last week, or was that for something completely different?
  • Mr_Whacker #8 6 years ago

So they made her sit there and do a load of grunting noises? I've got the wrong job.

awww Eurogamer, you're so cruel. ;) Gave me a good laugh though.

The Weisz rumour seemed to get misreported.

Ok, can people please stop doing that 'first' thing, i've started noticing it on here last 2 times I've read the comments.. it's sad and pathetic.. do we want this to end up like the Aint It Cool News forums... jesus people, we're better than this!
  • mattigan #12 6 years ago

"Ok, can people please stop doing that 'first' thing"...

No problem, whenever someone does it, just press the "ignore poster" link, and the monkeyboy is banned from your internet. They should have one on AICN, might make the talkbacks worth visiting again.

Thanks for the technical solution "banned from your internet" LOL

In fact it's probably a good idea to keep your self righteous posts of how things wind you up on the Eurogamer threads to yourself as we are a pretty sarky lot here and it will only make us do it more to wind you right up, I should know its happened to me! Plus its pretty annoying trying to read threads with half the posts missing as you've ignored hafl the posters.

I think I origionally started the "first" thing as I brought it over from the www.geek.com boards a while ago and had not seen it here before, so sorry for that everyone!

People were 'firsting' before registered users were introduced. They died off for a bit as EG went on a bit of a cull of any posts that did it.

i thought people just did it to take the piss now?
  • mattigan #17 6 years ago

I do, and I "first" did it way before the site redesign.
  • Oceadge #18 6 years ago

Back to the topic... Who did the voice in the original game? Why couldn't they just get her to do it again?
  • Oceadge #19 6 years ago

I found the following in Google:
    Shelley Blond.
Why didn't they just keep using her? Why change the voice every few games?
