Dragon Quest meets FF News

PSP News by Ellie Gibson

24 February, 2006

Square-Enix has announced plans to bring classic RPG series Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy together in a new game for the PSP.

Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy in Itadaki Street Portable, as it's known in Japan but probably won't be over here, already has it's very own official website - not that there's much to see so far.

However, Japanese magazine Shonen Jump has revealed the first snippets of info about the game, including news that it will feature playable characters from both series, including Final Fantasy XII's Fran and Balflear. Stages will include one based on the Phantom Train in Final Fantasy VI.

This isn't the first time Squenix has produced a DQ/FF game - back in 2004, they released Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy in Itadaki Street Special for the PS2. It was a big hit in Japan, but never made it over here. The PSP game won't be a direct port of the original - instead it'll feature all-new characters and stages.

Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy in Itadaki Street Portable is due out in Japan this spring - here's hoping it makes it to Europe later in the year.

The Itadeki street games are kinda like crazy Mario Party style things, IIRC.

Yep.

Interesting idea, but another to file in the Namco X Capcom occupied 'Japan only' bin.

Yeah, they're Mario Party games with DQ/FF characters. This isn't the first, there's been several of them, going back to the NES era. And none released outside Japan.

@tengu

Not sure if this is play getting over excited again, but they think Namco x Capcom is coming out here.

navi - that's been there for ages. i think play just picked up on the japanese announcement and started accepting preorders on the offchance it would come out here. they tend to do that. if you search for "michigan" it returns both the actual pal release (report from hell) and play's premature ejaculation based on the japanese version.
