New Killzone PSP details News

PSP News by Ellie Gibson

24 January, 2006

Some new snippets of info have emerged regarding Killzone: Liberation, the first PSP instalment in the FPS series.

According to a report in OPSM2 magazine, the big news is that Liberation won't be an FPS at all - they're ditching the first-person perspective all together in favour of a third-person viewpoint.

It also seems that there will be a lot more stealth action involved, and you'll have to think a lot more tactically when making your way through missions than in Killzone PS2.

It's not all change though - once again you'll play as hero Jan Templar, albeit with a whole host of new weapons and attack options. And, once again, you'll be facing off with the scary old Helghast.

That's all there is to know at present, but you can expect some screenshots to turn up shortly. Killzone: Liberation is due out later this year.

Screenshots look quite promising - more of an isometric view. At least a developer is looking at the hardware rather than just making a straight port.

+1

I like the more Commandos-style approach.

In fact, I'd love an extension of the Commandos franchise on the PSP. Horrible load-times aside, the widescreen ratio would complement Commandos' strategy beautifully.

"you can expect some screenshots to turn up shortly"

That'd be why. Google for them - they're around somewhere.

I am glad it's not an FPS. I am even more glad it will be a sneak'em-up. Metal Gear Acid was especially fun because it was a new concept, but I'm glad there will also be a pseudo Metal Gear Solid for the PSP. As long as the gameplay is good, it promises hours of fun. Let's see if they include a good multiplayer mode as well.

I wonder how long it will be before this is a DS VS PSP debate.

I thought the whole selling point of Killzone was that is was a first-party FPS?!

This might work well in third-person, but I'm not sure about the the switch to stealth. Generally I don't like stealth games.

I'll wait with baited breath...
