Codemasters to operate on Hospital Tycoon News

PC News by Matt Martin

23 August, 2006

God sim obsessive Deep Red Games is snapping on its rubber gloves in anticipation of probing PC gamers next spring with the release of Hospital Tycoon.

Hoping to be more Green Wing than ER, the management sim sees players charged with running a hospital on the verge of collapse, and promising emerging situations in the forms of patients stricken with odd ailments. Such as, "the man afflicted with 'Monkey Nuts' and the office worker diagnosed with 'Stress Zombosis'"

Skipping micro-management and all those other dull old simulation staples, Hospital Tycoon hopes its character interaction will set it apart. "It'll be accessible, funny, visually gorgeous and offer depth for those that want to dig for it," said Hospital Tycoon's project leader, Steve Beverley.

"We've added a generous helping of widely-appealing humour and a kind of soap-opera format too," said Beverley, while taking a break from the laughing gas.

Directing the medical staff, ensuring patients are cared for and building dedicated areas for surgery and diagnosis will all be in a days work. As well as slopping up patients' vomit and restraining mentals, no doubt.

Those that wish to stick their hands into the stomach of Hospital Tycoon and have a good old rummage around will be able to do so early next year, courtesy of Codemasters.

The ER game was fairly silly aswell if i recall from the shots.

If it doesn't top Theme Hospital, there really is no point.

"Tycoon" has turned into a bit of a dirty word when it comes to management sims. Pretty much synonymous with cheap and tatty half-arsed games.

Its yet another typical example of Codemasters having no original ideas of there own.

"Hmmm, Theme Hospital....thats looks good, lets make that"

Just like "Hmmm, Fifa and PES...how hard can it be, lets make a unbeatable football game"

And my personal favourite "Hmmmm, these MMORPGs are pretty successful aren't they, how hard can it be...LETS MAKE A MMORPG"

Yeah, except we're not developing the game - as the article says, we're publishing the game. The excellent Deep Red Games are developing the game so your post isn't correct.

Same goes with the MMOs we're releasing (or have released in the last year) - we're the publisher on those rather than developer (Turbine, NHN and CCR are the developers).

Club Football? Maybe with that one (as that was developed in-house), although I don't think we ever said it was 'unbeatable'.

Yes but you developed the mighty dragon empires did u not?? 4 years in dev going nowhere...

And with Club Football, Codies expected to give PES and Fifa a serious run for there money..with the first edition...without really thinking about the fact that these guys have 10 years plus experience of making football games. Such realistic targets ;o)

I say unbeatable in the the sense of the general codies attitude of "Look at that seriously succesful franchise or range of games....lets do that!" without really ever thinking about what makes these games so successful....with fifa and PES, 10 years experience / with MMO's, tonnes of experienced developers working on MMO after MMO.

Just makes me laugh that they believe they can get the world on a stick in a day, and it'll be the best god damn stick out there!
