GC: 'Xbox 360 is only option for next 12 months' - Lewis

Following the revelation of next-gen exclusivity on market-leading football franchises FIFA and PES, a confident European Xbox boss Chris Lewis has claimed Microsoft now has the console war sewn up for the year ahead.

Speaking exclusively to Eurogamer TV immediately after the firm's press conference at the Leipzig Games Convention, where the US giant revealed that EA's FIFA '07 and Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 6 would be exclusive to 360, Lewis said: "It's a great opportunity for us to reinforce the fact that for next-generation gaming, Xbox 360 is the only option for the next 12 months. And given the religious fervour for football in Europe it's particularly important to be able to make an announcement like that here in Leipzig."

Eurogamer TV is now showing a video report on the announcement and Lewis' post-event reaction, the Xbox chief bullish on the console's prospects this Christmas ahead of the launch of arch rival Sony's PlayStation 3.

The full, exclusive interview with Chris Lewis will be broadcast on EGTV early next week.

    Software sells consoles as we all know,

    however football games are big mass market rather than early adopter titles, so I wouldn't expect to see this dent Sony's first sales too much.

    If they keep releasing games and start to beef up Live Arcade they might just do it too. A long way to go yet though mate I'd say. I mean when was the last 360 exclusive release?

    Ummm, 2 weeks ago with Dead Rising and last night with Poker. I had 34 of my 100 friends who'd played Poker in the 1st 4 hours of launch. That could be a sleeper hit on live.

    So PS3 owners wanting FIFA and PES will be forced to pay £20 less to play the almost identical PS2 versions on the fully BC PS3?

    MS still don't seem to have cottoned on that Last gen games with nicer graphics does not mean Next gen games. Of course if they admnitted that the actual number of "Next gen" games on 360 would be pretty slight.

    Those looking at this as fanboyism can be assured I also think the PS3 line-up likes crap too, and the screens I've seen for the Wii make my heart hurt.

    Xbox 360 is THE BEST play to play next-generation Soccer games!!! FIFA 2007 actually uses a brand-new graphics engine built specifically for sports games and that sort of motion-captured movement. Being able to play a Soccer game like this in High-Definition video with 5.1 Digital sound is something that I am looking forward to a LOT!!! Only Xbox 360 offers that kind of experience to gamers!!!

    Xbox 360 Soccer (known as Football in many places of the world) is the BEST!!!

    Whether it's true or not (i don't really care to be honest), it's still breathtakingly arrogant to announce to the press that you think so. Especially as neither the PS3 or Wii are actually out yet, means it is stupid to assume so.

    Eurogamer = PS3 fanboy site. Pity Xbox 360 is beating the crap out of it with every bit of news that comes out. First it gets GTA4, then all next gen football games, and today Assasins creed.

    Nothing to see here people, PS3 is dead.
