Gears of War due in autumn

Bill Gates is counting on it.

Not content with hinting that Epic could be producing games for the Wii and PS3, lead designer Cliff Bleszinski has revealed that Gears of War will be heading to Xbox 360 this autumn.

Bleszinski was speaking in an interview with Bill Gates, don't you know, for MTV documentary Gears of War: The Race to E3.

"How does it look for shipping this fall?" Gates asked. Bleszinski simply replied: "We'll make it happen."

"Fantastic, we're counting on you!" said Gates.

You can watch the documentary in full over on MTV.com - but only if you're in America, unfortunately. Ah well.

That man is so getting sacked if it's late :)

Did anyone else see that trailer on Live where the guy basically admitted if his game didn't come out on time he'd be getting sacked? Way to fill me with confidence in your final product, moron!

That bitt is in the documentary aswell, you can aquire it via other means then the site, if you know what I mean *wink wink, nudge nudge*.

It is MTV though, so lots of that kind "OMG , getting fired" humor and look at my awsome car type shots.

You know a totaly informative seriouse documentary about Gears of War, going in depth into the game. Painting a realistic picture of game development. I'm sure everybody drives Lambourghinis in the industrie, right? ;)

I yes, I forgot about that.

""Fantastic, we're counting on you!" said Gates."

If he fails, CliffyB needs to cut off his pinky or Billyboy will send his ninja assasins.

""Music" channel? last time I checked (about 5 years ago) there was no more music on MTV."

True. They should rename it to ChavTV. -_-

i would prefer to wait than for them to rush the game and "make it happen"

every game is rushed, and every game is 'made to happen' in order to hit a release date - even the ones when they claim they took their time...

Bill's statement a while back that PS3 would walk straight into the launch of Halo 3 obviously ain't gonna happen, and that staement quickly got backtracked.

But I think (even from the 'joking' remarks) this interview shows that Gates is counting on Gears of War being in stores by the time the PS3 lauch rolls around (or even by the time that PS3 demo pods start popping up in stores).

Could be interesting. I think if 'average Joe' walks into a store in October or November sometime, and there sitting infront of him is two demo pods, "Xbox360 showing Gears of War", & "PS3 showing any of there launch titles"... out of the two Gears of War is probably going to look the more impressive (from what we've seen so far), or at least no worse than any of the PS3 launch lineup.
The question then is, how does 'average joe' justify to himself paying out an extra £145(?) for the PS3?

Of course the Playstation brand is huge, and thats what Sony are counting on to sell their console ('cos it ain't the price)... and it probably won't make any difference. But it'll be nice for Gears of War to be there in store, playable, to put the doubt into the buyers mind that PS3 is worth the money.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to Epic's hotel conference room during E3 and saw the playthrough of Gears of Wars about 5 times. The game was available for everyone to play if they wanted.

The game looks fenomenal (in terms of visuals, audio and gameplay) already, and it easily blew everything out of the water that was on show at E3. The only games that really came close and also delivered the next-gen promise where in my opinion; Assasins Creed, Bioshock, Crysis and believe it or not Viva Pinata.

There is no doubt GoW will reach Halo 2-esque proportions of popularity upon launch. And one of the previous posters is right; if you see this game running on a 360 demo pod next to, say, Heavenly Sword (which was the only impressive PS3 game on show... remember kids that MGS4 only was video footage), you will want to buy that 360. Dual screen 1080p display or not ;)

If GOW does sell like Halo then I wonder if Microsoft will try to buy Epic.
  • #27 6 years ago

Except MS bought Bungie way before Halo even came out. It was going to be a PC game (with squad-based elemens imrc). MS changed all that!
