StarCraft: Ghost online

On PS2 and Xbox.

Blizzard has revealed a few more details of forthcoming tactical action game, StarCraft: Ghost for PS2, Xbox and GameCube.

First up is the news that the game will feature a new multiplayer mode called Capture the Base, where two teams of four players battle for control of a flying Terran base. Like all the multiplayer modes, it'll be playable online via Xbox Live or Battle.net for PS2.

New vehicles are promised, along with old favourites that will be familiar to StarCraft fans, plus impressive special effects, huge 3D environments and a complex storyline.

StarCraft: Ghost is being developed by Swingin' Ape Studios, recently bought out by World of Warcraft creator Blizzard.

Wait, you mean they are still making this?

Yup, and it plays pretty well actually - they had an 8 way multiplayer on the stand. The multiplayer reminded me of a "good" CnC Renegade.

The online FAQ says that it'll be out in 2006.
This is a LONG gestation period, even for a Blizzard title.

This means that as a development project it has not really
gone as they had planned - they probably now have tons of
artwork that are not really suitable for PS3/XBOX360, for instance.

I'm sure there's an amusing story in there,
if only someone was allowed to tell it :-)

Renegade is the aces online, offline however is a different matter. I predict this will br the same.

Phew, 2006 on current gen hardware? That's a long project. Just think, all that time could have been spent making Starcraft 2 dammit!

Still looking forward to Ghost, whenever it shows up.

(Would have preferred "Starcraft: Hydralisk" though)
