CoD2 anti-cheat patch due soon

With multiplayer maps to boot.

Activision and Infinity Ward have reconfirmed their intention to patch PC FPS Call of Duty 2 with anti-cheat PunkBuster software and other "support enhancements", announcing that the update will be made available in "early 2006".

The patch will also include new multiplayer maps.

"Our team at Infinity Ward is committed to supporting Call of Duty fans," said IW president Grant Collier, who added, "[we] look forward to delivering new content such as multiplayer maps, tools and anti-cheat software that will further enhance the gameplay experience."

Despite strong reviews - and fantastic sales on Xbox 360, for which the game was one of the most critically acclaimed launch titles - Call of Duty 2's PC multiplayer component has come in for some strong criticism from fans, who even threatened to strike if some sort of action wasn't taken.

Activision reacted to those fans by promising to address their concerns. "After 2 years of non-stop work on Call of Duty 2, Infinity Ward has just returned from a much-deserved break. The team is aware of some concerns about multiplayer cheating in the game and is looking into an anti-cheat solution," the publisher said in a statement ten days ago.

And where's the new multiplayer maps for us Xbox 360 owners? Not only do we have to pay £50 for the game, but don't get extra maps either. BTW this game was far too short to!

COD2 on PC is a worthy follow-on for COD .. especially the multi-player part of the game (the only real reason to buy it) ...

But with no 'anti-cheat' its impossible to ascertain who are the real pros .. and who are the cheats. This will definitely make the gameplay a lot better on the public servers .. and it will lets us see if those 70 kills for 10 deaths 'champs' are for real or not ;)

MARKIV - maybe there will be content updates that can be downloaded to the 360 ? Dont know for sure as 360 hasnt been released in this part of the world yet (NZ) .. but it makes sense to follow the PSP WipeOut Pure idea of giving gamers new maps etc to download .. _b

MARKIV - two new multiplayer maps out in a couple of months apparently. A desert one and an African Rainforest one.

Should also be a patch out for it tomorrow.

I still don't understand why it's only 8 players! :( Even 16 would allow for some good games that don't involve sneaking around for 3 minutes trying to find someone.
