Miramax has secured the rights to distribute the new Dead or Alive film and will be bringing the movie to US cinemas next autumn, according to Variety.

DoA: the movie is directed by Cory Yuen, best known for his work as a fight choreographer on movies like The One, Romeo Must Die and Drunken Master. Yuen also did the martial arts choreography for X-Men and Lethal Weapon 4, and worked with Jet Li on the motion capture for PS2 fighter Rise to Honour.

The film was shot in China and is now in post-production, and stars Devon Aoki (Sin City, Fast and the Furious) as Kasumi. Shane Kosugi - who is the son of legendary ninja film star Sho Kosugi - takes on the role of Ryu Hyabusa, and Jaime Pressly (off of Joe Dirt and Not Another Teen Movie) plays Tina Armstrong. Holly Valance, of Neighbours, silly records and having to make reverse-charge phone calls because she is the last person in the world not to have a mobile phone fame, plays Christie.

There's no word on when the film will make it to European cinemas as yet. But don't worry, if you're a fan of videogames adaptations there's always Uwe Boll's BloodRayne and Dungeon Siege movies to look forward to...

lol - Sho Kosugi was shit.

The teaser trailer for the film looks like it could fall into the "so bad, it's good" category, along with the first Mortal Kombat film, which I quite enjoyed in a brainless stupid action way.
However, Mortal Kombat actually had some martial artists in the cast, and in trying to get Holly Valance and Jaime Pressly to do kung-fu, it could end up in the "so bad, it's no longer good, but just plain bad" category.

Is it a Hong Kong cinema production? If so then it could be OK. If its a US production then it will be Street Fighter the film. Where as the origial Street Fight anime was superb with fantasic fight scenes and good animation. I think it did have a story, of sorts, to.

I'm looking forward to this film.
Remember; it's based on the DOA-games, so you can't expect it to revolutionize cinema in any way. Most of the actors look a lot like their characters, and it's going to follow the simple DOA-tradition of fighting and bouncing boobs...what more could you want? It's going to be simple and amusing entertainment - just like the games (remember; this is coming from a huge fan of the games!).

Hmm...I just saw the trailer, so forget what I said earlier. I'm going to watch (though without spending money on) this movie, simply because I'm a DOA-fan. I'm expecting it to suck big-time. ^_^

Ah yes, missed that one scrolling through. LOL, seems really really cheesy and lots of girl power type one liners. Good for a laugh but why make it like that? The games more like the usual "you offended my honor/killed my family, I want revenge"-type martial arts movie not the Spice Girls.

You have to right click and save as once the timer's counted down.
This does look awful though, really cheesy and not much to do with the games' plotlines.
It looks like fanservice, only without the service and to a different set of fans.

Is the Doom movie out yet by the way?
