Space Invaders PSP dated
Now with Future Mode!
Rising Star Games has announced that PSP shooter Space Invaders Evolution is hitting European shelves this November.
As you might have guessed the game tasks you with annihilating wave after wave of alien enemies, but there are some new twists - as we found out when we got the chance to sit down and have a play recently.
For starters there's the new 360 degree Future Mode where you're now shooting in all directions. There's also a rhythm action element involved, so you have to take out the mother ship by pressing fire at exactly the right moment.
But fear not, retro fans - there's a Classic Mode, too, and two multiplayer modes. We especially like the one where two opponents can play on one PSP, with each using the set of buttons at either end to shoot enemies across the screen and straight into their enemy's FACE. In a manner of speaking.
The all-new 3D engine is said to provide "the most dazzling visuals and pyrotechnics seen in any interpretation of the original concept," too, so that's something to look forward to.
Space Invaders Evolution is out in mid-November.

Does anyone actually buy this stuff? I mean, I'm old and crumbly with the best of 'em, but paying £170 for a hi-tech, next-gen handheld and then using it to play Space Invaders just seems... pointless.

But some things you shouldn't go back to... some games get better with age, some don't... that's the way it is and the way it's always been.
