Activision goes retro on PSP News

PSP News by Tom Bramwell

22 August, 2006

Fresh from announcing GUN Showdown, Activision's leapt onto the retro compilation stagecoach with the promise of Activision Hits Remixed for PSP.

Promising a mixture of games from the days of Atari 2600, Hits Remixed will also allow players to take part in two-player games over wireless networking using just the one disc.

Pitfall, Kaboom, Chopper Command, Stampede and Keystone Kapers are all primed for inclusion, with a total of over 40 planned, and Activision's also promising to include full game manuals on the UMD, along with "a host of retro unlockables".

The whole thing will be put together with a "modernised front-end" and a "rockin' '80s themed soundtrack", and should be released in the US at least this autumn.

Oh, so that'll be a port of the GBA Activision Anthology then will it?
Still that was pretty cool and I don;t think it ever came out in EU.
However, trying to play games like Kaboom without a paddle is very frustrating. It's a bit like trying to play tennis with a cricket bat.

If Decathlon is on it (which if it's based on the PS2 version it will be), expect a few PSPs on eBay with broken nubs.

I imagine this will go down a storm with the average PSP owner. :-)

Keystone Kapers is brill. Still play that on occasion, although usually the Colecovision version rather than the 2600.

I'd like THPS 1,2,3 and maybe 4 if it squeezes on there, in one UMD.

Or maybe for PS2

Infact i'd be happy with just 1 and 2. The others went a bit to wayward for me after that.

As much as I love the oldies, who is the target audience for this collection?

The old farts have the originals, and bought the Windows, Macintosh, GBA (love this one), or Playstation 2 version.

The kids don't care.

Who's left?

Ah well, I guess I'll snag it when it goes in the bargain bin!
