Winning Eleven PSP details

More instalments promised.

Konami has revealed the first details of Pro Evolution Soccer for the PSP - or as it's titled in Japan, Winning Eleven 9: Ubiquitous Evolution [brilliant! - Ubiquitous Ed].

According to Famitsu magazine, we can expect full Match, League and Training modes and there will also be an Edit Mode, but Konami is keeping quiet on exactly what you'll be able to do with this for now.

Naturally you'll be able to wirelessly hook up with other PSPs for multiplayer matches, but it's not clear how many participants can join in yet. You can also save your stats to Memory Stick and rise up through the rankings depending on how well you perform.

The control system is being revamped to suit the PSP, according to series producer Shingo Takatsuka - so, for example, you'll execute a side dribble using only the D-pad since there's no R2 button on the handheld.

Which also means you can't super cancel (usually done by pressing R1 and R2), but Takatsuka is promising that the game will play so smoothly you won't notice it's not there. Unsurprisingly, he confirmed that this is only the first in a series of Pro Evo games for the PSP.

Winning Eleven 9: Ubiquitous Evolution is out in Japan this September, so here's hoping it'll make it to Europe by Christmas.

This is going to be SO good. I can't wait. My PSP won't ever touch the ground again.

I think EG like the PSP don't you ?

Sounds great if they can sort out the control problems. But no master league?

"I think EG like the PSP don't you ?"

    What does that mean?

I think at £35 a game, EG have to pull out all the stop to ram the PSP in your face.

Every sensible person will be saving their money for the Xbox 360 and spending that £35 on the super looking PGR3!

It just seems funny that we seem to get every shred of PSP news that appears anywhere about the PSP and from that I get the impression that the EG team are more interested in the PSP than anything else at the moment.

It's released in 5 weeks, they have to ram that fact in your face in the desperate hope people are rich enough to throw money away on a machine that doesn't do much but look pretty.

The only real hope is, the Xbox 360 will be launched so soon after the PSP that all our news will be about a actual machine that can play quality games, and it'll actually be a machine of good value with a Hard Drive included!

Also, there's feck all else going on at the moment, is there? It's the usual Summer gaming drought situation.

I don't like the PSP, but you're being paranoid.

I bought a US import some time ago and I guess PSP seems a bit like old news to me now and I find the number of ports of PS2 games is feeding my apathy gland at the moment... so when I see so many news articles based on PSP (movie releases, homebrew, even hacks ffs) I just don't get it... I get the feeling the PSP as a product gets more coverage than anything else at the moment and perhaps to some degree, as a PSP owner, don't understand why.

You're right tho' PES is news worthy and this rant of mine probably belongs elsewhere.

think this summer's been quite good. Killer7, God of War and Conker.

have we had an EG review yet for Conker and Killer 7?

Balor, can you please, please, please stop advertising the 360 in EVERY SINGLE POST? This is a PSP thread. Nobody cares.

Balor - has it ever occurred to you that the PSP and 360 aren't even in competition? It's like saying "don't buy an iPod because there's a new HiFi coming out".

i really hope they sort out the controls for the PSP version.

Yes Konami are great at on-line football games, let's hope this is as good as the Xbox Live version. Ubiquitous actually means to be everywhere at the same time, I bet it's not, it'll be launched in Japan first. :)
