No ICO sequel this year
Sony gives the lie to an Amazon listing for NICO, but urges you to watch this space. (We should put that on our business cards, really.)
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has no plans to launch a sequel to ICO this year, the company confirmed today, but hasn't ruled out a sequel to the cult PS2 title entirely.
Reacting to an Amazon.co.uk listing for NICO - believed to be the name of the sequel - and an alleged November 29th release date, a spokesperson for Sony told Eurogamer, "SCEE has yet to announce any official information related to the sequel of ICO, but we can confirm that such game will not be launching in 2004 for Europe."
However there is glimmer of hope for fans of Ico and Yorda's celebrated PS2 adventure. "ICO has been a cherished favourite amongst PS2 gamers and we realise that a second instalment is eagerly anticipated worldwide," we were told. "Please watch this space..."
Couldn't have put it better ourselves.

But it's all academic anyway, because they'd be insane not to make a sequel. The world would vanish in a puff of logic if they didn't.

Good example of this is GT4 Prologue which they said they were getting at least a full week or two before everyone else (no, I didn't fall for it. I'm too cycnical about the games market these days). This was changed the day after their alleged release date. A shame as other than that I quite like shopping with them.

Either way, if it's even a glimmer as beautiful as ICO was, I'm 'avin' it.

These screenshots have been around for more than an year, possibly pulled off from a company presentation in Japan. The Japanese words seen there are a few names of the same people that did ICO and the style definitely has written ICO all over it.
Personally I'm glad Sony don't rush it and let the developers take the time they need. After all, that's why the first game is so good.
