More WipEout Pure content

Tomorrow.

Owners of PlayStation Portables and American copies of WipEout Pure will be able to download some more tracks and interface re-skins tomorrow as Sony unleashes "Gamma Pack 2" for its Yank audience.

Of course, those of you with imported PSPs can download them as well. Just log in through the in-game browser over your local wireless network - we went into more details last time.

Imported PSPs are, of course, very naughty and bad.

But if you do have one (we have several), then you'll be interested to hear that Gamma Pack 2 features two new tracks, called Extostra Run (set in a factory) and Ubermall (set in a, er, shopping centre), and a couple of new skins.

Sony is also apparently re-releasing Gamma Pack 1 for some reason, and when installed it will overwrite the stale one on the memory card when installed.

You can read more about WipEout Pure, including our import review, through the game's page here.

I wonder if the server will be choaked up again (like it was last time) ?

It's nice to get the extra stuff tho', keeps a game alive and probably helps the games overall retention ratio.

Wonder what's up with Gamma Pack 1 then?
Seems fine to me so far.

Maybe they decided stanton park (I think that was the name of it but I can't remember) was a bit easy. Even I managed to make it round the course 3 times without blowing up.

    UBER MALL!!

    UB3R!1!1!!!11

// Look forward to this... wifi at the ready!

Sweet - will you need the new 1.52 firmware to run this pack, and is that why the previous gamma pack has been changed?
  • ishigo #6 7 years ago

Gamma 1 was definately buggy, when installed i would frequently have crashes when playing tourneys - the G1 Tigon ship would be randomly included even when playing standard tracks, perhaps thats the prob...?

Looking forward to Gamma 2, keeps wipeout interesting!

I would like to see some kind of qualifying for the tournaments,
I find it really annoying that you always start in last place, and even if you do a perfect start witha boost all the other ships seem to accelerate past, even if you're in the piranha.

Staten Park was a PITA to do timetrials on though, I thought they'd set the Bronze/Silver/Gold times a little bit too low. Even with a Zone ship!

I thought the problem with pack 1 was the crashes it caused in Tourny mode using Phantom class. I quite liked the fact the Tigron got included in "normal" play.

I totally agree. I could barely get a bronze on the Staten Park Vector time trial in the Zone ship.

I hate waiting for things, the UK needs PSPs now, september is not good enough.
Looking forward to wireless online gaming though, glad I have a wifi router now.

*imagines the lack of sleep I'm going to have now that I can play online games anywhere in my house*

*Gets ready, food in room, check, Coffee, check, porn, check,
Good excuse not to see girlfriend for a few days, check*

    Bring on september 1st!

I don't think they can require new firmware in just downloadable content. And stealth updating is out of the question too, I think, because the PSP has to be connected to an AC outlet.

Of course, if an update was required to play this, I'd take homebrew over this pack. Especially now that a swapless exploit is coming out for 1.5...

"Of course, if an update was required to play this, I'd take homebrew over this pack. Especially now that a swapless exploit is coming out for 1.5..."

Thing is it's really easy for new UMDs to contain firmware upgrades that'll be required to play that game. 16MB is nothing on a UMD, so the first thing that'll happen is the game starts, the loader checks the firmware, notes it's not up-to-date (lit. homebrew workable), then demands you update the firmware to play the game. :-/

Of course, I could just be being paranoid...

Glad it wasn't just me then. ;-)

    Which is the zone ship?
  • Sorb #14 7 years ago

Unfortunately no one can be told what the zone ship is, you have to see it for yourself. That plus IŽd be killed for spoiling :)

Any idea as to what time of day this will come online?
  • Grunk #16 7 years ago

    Hey Quincy,

I reckon it'd have to be some time during the US day, since we shouldn't have the game or PSPs over here.
  • jack_klugman #17 7 years ago

Fortunately as a forensic investigator for the Los Angeles coroner's office this isn't an issue
  • Tommyc352 #18 7 years ago

Damn timezones - looks like ill be waiting till tomorrow to get this update - hopefully in time for the train journey to work
  • Grunk #19 7 years ago

looks like I was wrong, there's no update yet,

    something's not quite right though,

someone should investigate this occurence that has nothing to do with forensics......
  • jack_klugman #20 7 years ago

    That pesky Dr. Aston!
  • Heds #21 7 years ago

    So much for tomorrow then.

I await the statement from SCEE that goes something along the lines of:

"We are tracing every download from PSP users in Europe to block all content from those who have chosen not to wait and purchase a 'legal' European PSP."

    It's hot, I'm bored... troll time! :)

Finally got it, and in the words of a famous fast food chain, "im loving it"
