Turn your GBA into a TV News

GameBoy Advance News by Tom Bramwell

21 June, 2004

SimplyGames is offering the Blaze TV tuner for the ridiculous price of £10.99. Quite how this is the case is a little beyond us, but there we are.

The peripheral literally turns your GBA into a mini-TV. A quick test reveals that they actually do work. Like, properly. You can see whats happening on the screen and everything. You can even hear stuff. This means that while you're banned from watching football for 20 hours a day by the dominant female in the house (or a Portuguese court), you can retire to the toilet and watch all the action on a really small screen. Practically for free.

The set includes an AV in/out, so you can plug a PS2, an Xbox or a DVD player into it if you get really desperate. Go here to buy one. These were £50 when they were released in 2002. We don't understand.

I found it difficult to get reception, but watching Firefly DVDs on the GBA is worth £11 of anyone's money. : )

Fairly safe to assume it doesn't work with an SP. If it did, they'd be blurting it out and the fact they don't mention it either way seems to suggest they're hoping for some 'accidental' purchases.

I wonder where I can get one quickly?

Does anyone know of anywhere near Oxford St / Tottenham Court Road that has them?

It's been confirmed that it DOESN'T work with the SP. They redesigned the unit slightly after the SP came out, but this is the older version.

I got mine on Friday - it works really well. Once our Afterburner is fitted we'll be able to see the screen too!

And no it doesn't work with the SP, don't know why.

And I got my Afterburner kit with all the bits you need and a new case and lens for only £27 from www.consolesplus.co.uk and it came next day too.

Supposed to last for 110 minutes on batteries, you get a PSU with it as well.

Have to say, for a mere £11, thats a bargain. If you can use it, hey, abuse the cheapness of it.

But rauper I have to say this story does look a bit.. naff? I don't want to sound harsh, and simplygames seem to be a good company (though I've only used them once) but this 'news' story just looks a bit tacky, especially with all the banners going on.

Just a thought.

Yeah, a fair bit of a$$ kissing going on there with the sponsors. The advert/article could have at least mentioned that it isn't compatible with the SP!!

Why's everyone being so harsh? It's bringing your attention to a good deal, but it's not exactly forcing you to purchase the thing, is it? I find it interesting, even though I don't own a GBA, nor do I intend to, nor am I interested in watching tv on a tiny screen outside of my house.

I was wondering though, isn't it a little intimidating posting all these items/reviews knowing what sort of reaction it might generate?

It has to be said that a new visitor to this site might think that it was owned by simplygames, what with the 2 banners at the top and the huge one down the side.

I was quite happy with this piece of news really. I mean, it IS a great deal. Until I read the posts saying it doesn't work with the SP. If THIS was a piece of news, they should have mentioned it, no? This is disapointing comming from Eurogamer.
