Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne gets Euro release

Not long to wait, either, and more obscure Japanese nonsense on the way. [She's only teasing you with the "nonsense" bit, baffled readers. -Ed]

Turn-based PS2 RPG Shin Megami Tensei is to get a release in Europe after all and could be with us as soon as next month, according to a statement from publisher Midas passed on to Eurogamer.

"Our company called Ghostlight has acquired the European rights for SMT," the statement says. "We are calling the game 'Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call."

The game is the third title in the SMT series and is already out in the US and Japan, titled Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. It follows the adventures of a teenage boy, haunted by mysterious visions, who finds himself trapped in the demon-filled ruins of Tokyo after the destruction of the world. As you do.

"We have secured the full version of the game as was released in Japan and US under the 'Maniacs' edition," Midas confirms. "This is the version that includes Dante from Devil May Cry 2."

SMT will be the first title published by Ghostlight, a new subsidiary of the company. It is currently negotiating contracts to publish a range of other titles, and sales and distribution deals also need to be worked out.

Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call will "be in the shops by late May [or] early June", according to Midas.

Hey tengu, I bet you anything in about four years time they make an RPG called 'Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne'!

    /registers trademark

Do you guys read your mail once a fortnight or something? :-)

Don't forget the second mail I sent - Digital Devil Saga will follow later in the year.

Not you, rhythm - EG. I tipped them off a couple of weeks back after itamae threw me a lead.... :-)
  • valli #6 7 years ago

Yay, great (old) news now, thanks to Blerk.

BTW, the title of this article is wrong: "Shin Megami Tensai gets Euro release".

i cant handle these games anymore. i want summat that makes me feel good. These Jap rpgs are just too hard.

If there was a "Proper-Wuss Mode" i would have loved it. It just seems that you've got to do everything AS the coders intended. You cant just bumble thru.

Make the combat easy, make me feel like a god, show me some nice shiny rotatey gfx and make me like the characters. I dont wanna be tested. And i especially dont want to goto a certain area where XP comes easy to "level-up".

Shadow Hearts: Covenant, deepmenace. Looks nice, plays great and piss easy. A bit too easy, actually, but I'll forgive it.
  • PinkSpider #9 7 years ago

Dances, Now all we have to do is get the BIG publishers to bring out games here... sob.

You'll want to stay away from SMT then. It's one of the toughest, most unforgiving RPGs I've played. But as Blerk says Shadow Hearts Covenant is stupidly easy, although it has a rubbish story. Ho hum.
  • deepmenace #11 7 years ago

Xenosaga was my last one. I could feel the difficulty building after the 2nd main baddy i think.

Everytime i take the left path on a forked junction i am left thinking

*there maybe Ultimo-Bot-Hammer-Lazer-Rod down the right fork*

but i`m not gonna go down every path, thats boring, and it involves backtracking.

    And as for -

*Oooo, i cant kill this baddy, i have to go back into the last area and slaughter 52 enemies so i can get the next skill*

    WHY!!!!

anyhows, cheers guys - i will try Shadow Hearts: Covenant. Other ones i that i thought were easy enuff were Suikoden 1 and 2, and actually all of the FF series i think....

Irritating, isn't it? Time and again the big guys spin us the same old 'it's too complicated to localise' bullshit, yet a small company like this has no problems. Tch.
  • Freek #13 7 years ago

Oh yeah localisation is a big deal especially if you released the game in the US. Becuase lets face it we don't speak english like they do so we coulden't possibly understand the game.
  • aabyssx #14 7 years ago

I already gave up playing this one in Europe, so I am happy! :)

The full version! Now aren't we lucky.

    What about Digital Devil Saga?

    What about Digital Devil Saga?

The PAL version is scheduled for a chrimbo release. Better ask Blerk though, he got the mail from Midas.
  • tengu #18 7 years ago

How about a good RPG for us poor starved Euro dogs, eh? I don't much like the sound of this one...
  • Blerk #19 7 years ago

That's just about all I have. The chap said they were working on it now and that it would hopefully be ready for Chrimbo.
  • Artemus #20 7 years ago

    Just part one then?
  • tengu #21 7 years ago

What are you talking about? You don't get much better than Shin Megami Tensei.

Well, everything I've seen and heard would suggest otherwise. To me at least. I just don't much like the look of the game.
  • Blerk #22 7 years ago

    Just part one then?

I don't think part 2's even confirmed for the US yet, is it?
  • itamae #23 7 years ago

I don't think part 2's even confirmed for the US yet, is it?

According to VG+ part two is due for the end of June. By the way, DDS 1 (at least the US version) comes with an extra large box which fits both games.

Any news on Dragon Quest/Warrior VIII and XenoSaga?

Probabilities of PAL release: DQVIII 5%, Xenosaga 1%
  • Blerk #24 7 years ago

We won't get Xenosaga in a million fucking years because Namco hate us. And we probably won't get Dragon Quest because Squenix Europe appear to have packed up and headed for the hills.
  • valli #25 7 years ago

DDS could be worth waiting for, I'm playing it now and it's superior to SMT3 in just about every category, except the fusions, which are missing.

And yes, SMT3 is hard and unforgiving, especially the "Maniacs" version we'll get.
  • Blerk #26 7 years ago

    I was right!

    /sues for breach of trademark
  • Scimarad #27 7 years ago

Digital Devil Saga is so much easier to get into than this but I actually I feel I could play this now. I actually understand what the damn spells do now...
