Nearly five years after it first hit the shelves, Microsoft has released the source code for tactical combat game MechCommander 2.

According to the official download page: "This release contains all of the source code and source assets required to build MechCommander 2. This release can be used with the Microsoft XNA Build March 2006 CTP."

In other words, it's got all you need to make your very own version of the 2001 strategy game. For those who don't recall, MechCommander 2 sees you taking command of an army of MechWarriors, battling against three warring noble houses. It all takes place in the BattleTech universe, and involves lots of very hard thinking.
