BF2 expansion delayed again

Euro Farces!

No sooner had we gotten used to the idea of Battlefield 2: Euro Forces coming out today, than EA updated its website with news that, er, it isn't.

In fact, it's going to have to wait for patch 1.21, which we're waiting for because patch 1.2, which was holding up Euro Forces, had a bug in it, which they're "working around the clock" to sort out.

That's according to an update on the game's official website which, just for comedy effect, is currently unavailable.

Euro Forces is now delayed "until sometime after the release of the updated 1.21 patch" and goodness knows when that'll be. You will know though, because we'll tell you.

When it does eventually materialise, Euro Forces will be available only through EA's Steam-style "Downloader" service, and will introduce seven new weapons, four new vehicles and three new maps.

It'll be followed out there somewhere in the realms of the mysterious patch-dependent future by another Downloader-only expansion, Armored Fury. Probably.

DICE needs to lay off the weed and stop getting the work experience kid to do all their coding.

When they recalled the 1.01 patch due to a memory leak THAT was a debacle. 6 months later it's now just a comedy.

the sort of comedy show which has canned laughter but you never actually laugh yourself.

    Yeh it sucks..

But that's just it - it's the nature of software and program design. Not saying it's "right" - but that's how it is.

Even more difficult for game designers in that they have to take into account such a vast array of different machine setups and types and drivers and components, etc.

I'm annoyed that it's delayed but I'm used to these sorts of things. And while the bugs and issues that get introduced suck - the game itself is still very fun and you can see a great deal of work and effort went into it so I hesitate from slagging off EA & DICE.

    This shit aint easy..

    "Armoured Fury'

I believe there is a real-time, 250 FPS, high-res version of that taking place right outside DICE offices right now. Watch out!

    @turdbreaker

I think BF2 is great but I also think it's pretty shocking that they can release a patch which immediately needs patching. Yes it's probably due to pressure, deadlines etc etc but it's not surprising that software developers/publishers get a bad name when they continually supply software that contains bugs.

The new bug which means you don't always hear gunfire is the worst imo on 1.2

And yes I'm sure its very difficult coding software but when is that an excuse?

Ever heard this said? "Sorry about your car crash sir but its very difficult building reliable steering wheels you know."

I cant believe they can get so close to release, and then pull the plug... something always seems to happen with DICE/BF... is it the code team?
  • binky #11 6 years ago

The thing is, you release the patch because of public demand and pressure and then it goes a wee bit wrong and everyone is up in arms.

You hold the patch back for more testing and polishing and everyone gets on their case for not releasing it quick enough.

They can't win either way. At least they are actively listening to the community, and owning up to the mistake and addressing the issue as soon as they can.

Its' cos of the EuroFighter jet that's in the game.

_How_ long was that delayed for in real life? :p
  • gushy #13 6 years ago

I'd rather it was delayed while they fix bugs than wasting money on something rushed out before the bugs are fixed - MS stylee.
