Watch banned PES5 advert News

PC PlayStation 2 Xbox PSP
News by Ellie Gibson

21 October, 2005

A new advert promoting Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 5 has been banned from our screens by UK censors.

The ad, which stars John Terry and Thierry Henry, depicts a lawnmower being driven over an electric cable - something which could cause serious injury in real life, such as your skeleton all flashing through your skin and your hair sticking up while all smoke comes off your clothes.

Problem is that little kiddies can't always tell the difference between telly and real life, apparently, and the particularly stupid ones tend to copy what they see on screen - so for health and safety issues, the ad has been banned.

But not from the Internet, of course, where we're all free to watch footage of much worse things than electrical mishaps should we so choose. Which means the PES5 advert is now available for download via Eurofiles - enjoy.

PES5 is out now on PS2 and Xbox - be sure to check out our review if you haven't already.

They banned this?

... that is so lame... the ad is boring and predictable anyway.

I remember when they banned the John West Tuna ad - for those who can't remember, this is the one with the fisherman fighting a Kuma-style bear, then kicking the bear in the nadgers. I had a good chuckle from that one - and it's subsequent banning, I thought it was silly and really didn't require banning.

This ad is just dull though. Maybe the banning is a good thing, but banning it because the lawnmower runs over a cable is silly - there have been far, far worse crimes commited in ads...

i agree kami,

The next time you are in the cinema and you see the epic 15 minute H&M advert (it will make you want to gnaw your own arms off) thats the kinda doggy-do-do they should be banning ;)

GOD yes! That is one of the most bewilderingly bad adverts I've ever seen. Makes me never want to step foot into a H&M again (and I've only seen it once)

I thought this PES5 ad was great! Stupid reason for banning it, though.

Where is it banned? I just watched it here in Norway on some channel, possibly Eurosport.

Yeah, it sucks though. The FIFA 06 ones where the players switch teams is far better.

Holy crap, that ad was bloody brilliant.

Why was it banned?

Vin, it supposedly recieved a couple thousand complaints from "animal rights" protesters/groups that it encouraged "animal cruelty".

I know, pathetic reason...

Err... No sex, no voilence, no smacktalk, no murder, no death...So its unlike anything on the daily telly & newspapers.... Why exactly did they ban it.....

"Problem is that little kiddies can't always tell the difference between telly and real life, apparently, and the particularly stupid ones tend to copy what they see on screen - so for health and safety issues, the ad has been banned. " - Heh, if they are that stupid, then they are gonna have some serious problems in real life....

What the f...!?!

If this is banned what is the UK coming to?! Jesus.

What about those stupid fucking "You can do it too with Kandoo" adverts. Oh the kid is wiping his arse on a toilet... therefore he might see this as a way to:

A) fall in the toilet and drown
B) playfully discover his sexuality

Jesus. Mind, maybe it was banned for the sake of Konami what with the advert being so poor anyway.

Its not all bad, they've made a more pc version now with the guy pulling the power cord from its extender rather then noring through it with his mower, they've do nothing about the urban guy with the stupid voice though.

John Terry is actually the looker in his family, his bruv (I think he plays for Yeovil?) is an even bigger minger.

Anyway, advert and commentary on PES is crap, but the game is sublime. I'm really impressed with the amount of tweaking that has 'saved' the game from the Winning Eleven incarnation only a few months ago, which even I was mildly skeptical over (too many fouls etc).

With the invention of the 'middle shoot' function though, the XBOX controls become even more unwieldly. Bring on the X360 controller - yes, I'm sad enough to play an old XBOX game on my brand-new next-gen console - with the white and black buttons by the triggers.
