C&C3 confirmed, details

Update: EA finally spills.

EA's finally confirmed reports about Command & Conquer 3. Going by the working title Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, the new game is previewed in the latest US PC Gamer.

EA hasn't mentioned many details, but scans of the PC Gamer preview are starting to appear in various places and, although we can't show you them ourselves for legal reasons, we can talk a little bit about what's in them.

For a start, the game's due out next year, and is in development at EALA. It's set in the year 2047, when some 20 per cent of landmass is described as a Tiberium wasteland and not good news for humanity. Followers of our old pal Kane, now a "global superpower" themselves, renew hostilities with the GDI - and you come in as a GDI commander trying to turn things around.

Memorable units like the Mammoth Tank, Orca gunship and Stealth Tank will return, along with the Ion Cannon and Nuke, and EALA says it wants to give the game the same "crisp feel" of the original C&C, while improving both storytelling and AI. And of course there'll be traditional skirmish, deathmatch and team deathmatch modes and a new "Risk-style" mode called World Domination.

Expect more in the coming months.

Glad to hear they're bringing back the FMV.

Most features mentioned in PC Gamer already existed in Tiberium Sun. So, I find it unlikely the devs would drop those.

EA, here's your chance to redeem yourselves...

I loved the cut scenes between missions, they just made you really want to continue the story and go to the next mission.

I thought the last C&C was better then Warcraft 3, just because it didn't have "Hereos" which can take out an army.

I have a soft spot for C & C games (Renegade excluded :) so they'd better not screw this up!!!

If this comes out aseptically stripped of every ounce of personality like Generals was, then a certain EA studio will be making some very large property insurance claims very soon.

    Kane died didn't he?

Generals was fairly good fun, online anyway. That's if you were playing against someone who was on your level and who wouldn't quit. Oh... Hmm, seems I've just mentioned the crucial flaws :[

Agreed, the 1 player was boring as anything. CnC cut scenes rock. I'm curious about CnC 3 at the moment. They're my only RTS and they can be really, really excellent fun when the playing conditions are right - otherwise they just get hard to keep up with and ultimately infuriating!

Kane dies in nearly every C&C instalement, never seems to stop him though.

Kane "Apparently" died at teh end of C&C1 after being blasted with the Ion Cannon. He also got stabbed through the guts by McNeil at teh end of Tiberian Sun. Confirmation of death? Not sure.

One thing that is odd from teh article above is that it says 20% of land mass is infected by Tibirium. IIRC it was a MUCH higher figure in Tiberian Sun, but I can't find out what year TS was set in.

Kane: "It would be a sad error in judgement to mistake me for a corpse."

The Risk-style mode sounds painfully like the not-so-hot War Of The Ring mode from BFME2.

In TS: Firestorm the situation with Tiberium got even worse, but the plot of that expansion involved the unlocking of the alien Tacitus device, meaning that GDI scientists were able to start to combat Tiberium infection. That plot also involved the possible merging of Kane with his rogue AI CABAL in some kind of regeneration chamber.

World domination mode? Sounds exactly like what the doctor ordered!

    Oh please...no tanks on legs!

The only cutscenes i remember in C&C is RA2 because they are hilarious. I love the red phone with the curley wire, but i found my self shouting at a few occasions 'Tanya, lean over just a little more!'

I used to be a big fan of C&C. But TS was one big turnoff and it just went downhill after that imo. I expect absolutely nothing of this, so if it turns out to be more or less oke, i might be a happy man. :\

    HOLY S***!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been waiting for years!!!! And there it is!!!!!!!
Hope they won't make it Battle for Middle-Earth Clone because that would screw this series pretty bad. You know, heroes and other stuff would be stupid in it.
This Game HAS to be something like Generals, but in original C&C world...
Actually, I would like to play "Red Alert 3" even more 'cause I'm Russian
Well, that's not the main reason

Why are you lookin' at me in that way? I'm not "Crazy Ivan", "Boris" or other idiotic soviet character in videogames and movies. I'm a man just like you...
    "For mother Russia"................:)
