Animal Crossing for Wii

Still in the planning phase.

Nintendo's Katsuya Eguchi has confirmed that a Wii version of Animal Crossing is in the pipeline - but there's no word on a release date yet, since they're still deciding how the whole thing's going to work.

Speaking to IGN, Eguchi said: "We're still just hammering out the concepts. It's not playable yet... Right now we're currently considering our options in terms of what we can do with the various features of the controller and through WiiConnect24.

"You could have someone visit your town even when you weren't actively playing and maybe leave you a letter or a gift," he said, echoing comments made at Nintendo's pre-E3 press conference.

"Also, through Wi-Fi Connection, players could play simultaneously."

Eguchi confirmed that they're looking at ways of making the game work with the Wii's remote controller, stating: "Basically it could become potentially your axe, your shovel and your fishing rod. You can imagine what can happen there.

"Again, we don't know if this will happen for sure because it's kind of a trial and error process."

As for when the game will be out: "That's yet to be determined," said Eguchi.

    I know have a reason to buy this system. Can't wait to go fishing, and chopping down tress with the new controler :)

    Like 8th successful DS game being 'ported' to the Wii.
    Not exactly breaking the imagination bank!
    But I'm sure it will be very good, Nintendo have a knack of incorperating innovative gameplay into non-innovative franchises (not saying Animal Crossing is such a franchise, but i was speaking more generally)

    Since you could "invade" others villages whilst they aren't there, does this open up the posibility of virtual vandalism? You could use the new controller like spray can to deface someone elses house! ;) That would add a bit more excitment. The persons house that you deface could then use the controller like a scrubbing brush to clean the grafitti off.

    @GreasyWeasel
    Don't give me any ideas mate. Oh I can just imagine spraying a mates house with the words the Rodster was Here '07 :p

    Ugh.

    Animal crossing is already a game unlike any other, what the fuck is wrong with people who start bitching that it's more of the same when the entire franchise is something unique to begin with among the countless upon countless of identikit FPS, RTS and WWII clones?

    And who the fuck cares if they use Mario again, if Super Mario Galaxy is such a different game that you hardly recognise it? What kind of fucking bullshit is it to start whining like a baby about rehashing when it's only the characters that get re-used? Would you rather have the same fucking GAMEPLAY with different characters over and over and over and over like, oh, EVERYONE ELSE is doing?

    And what sense does it make to knock Nintendo for not innovating EVEN in the character department when they have, well, pretty much one of the largest numbers of different characters and franchises of any developer out there?

    Jesus. what the fuck is wrong with people.

    GreasyWeasel im giving you a virtual asbo for even thinking about griefing peoples animal crossing villages.

    Its like virtual breaking and entering, getting home finding your personal belongings all over, your underwear rifled through. You just wouldnt feel safe! not even in a virtual world!
  • GreasyWeasel #7 6 years ago

    Excellent, like all people who are awarded asbo's I am most proud and think of it as a trophy to show how cool I am.

    As for "rifling through your undies", you brought that up not me ;)

    Nikanoru you may actually want to read my post. I'll quote it again your your info:

    At what point there did I have a go at Nintendo's gameplay innovation? - I didn't. In fact,you're agreeing with me (mostly) but you read it however you want I guess.

    Jesus. what the fuck is wrong with people. - mostly that they don't read each others' posts properly it seems.

    @Nikanoru : Its even more funny that these are the same people who'll rush out and buy GT4 with the EXACT same game, with prettier hidef pixels

    So, pointing the Wii controller and gesturing is the way forward for performing actions in Animal Crossing? Simply pressing a context sensitive button for nearly everything was of course so difficult... Thank god Nintendo are here to save us.

    I hope Wii games where possible come with alternate control schemes for pads. Performing 50 pointless gestures to pull 50 weeds sounds like a great way to make Animal Crossing worse.

    As it stands I'm now in the 'I'll buy the Wii when its £49.99 and no bugger wants it' camp. *

    *providing there are enough decent games out by then*

    Can just imagine ice sculpting in ACWii ^ ^
  • smelly #16 6 years ago

    @Cappy

    Yeah, i know what yer saying.

    I have the same problem with the other two, "oh look pretty pixels, exact same game".. So I cant see myself buying one for a while.

    @jp: Not once did I mention your name specifically ;p but either way: "Not exactly breaking the imagination bank!" sounds like a knock on a certain something to me! And if you read my post you'll notice I said something about you mentioning "non-innovative franchises", which also irks me because, while they have a certain core character roster which they use most, can you count the total amount of different things they've done? And they're adding new ones all the time.

    You simply cannot find any one single developer which has created as many franchises as Nintendo has. So it's ridicilous to knock them on that point, but people do it anyway because "oh, that's Mario, I've seen him before." Either that or they're just bitter Sony fanboys (generally speaking here!).

    (See how I'm not in such a swearing mood today?)

    @Smelly: Oh, but innovation only comes in the form of new pixel shaders, don't you know!

    @Teeth: ;p~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    @Cappy: You're absolutely right! I, also, contend that games should minimise user input. Why go out yourself to pull weeds at all, when you can have it done for you with one press of a button? Just sit back and watch. In fact, game controllers should be eliminated entirely. You pop in the game, turn on the console, and the game plays itself to completion!
