Sims 2 heads for consoles

Including handhelds. And mobile phones. And it'll feature new content, too.

EA has announced that The Sims 2 is currently in development for PS2, Xbox, GameCube, GBA, DS, PSP, mobile phones and fax machines. All right, maybe not the last one.

The PC version became the fastest selling game in the history of the world ever when it was released last year, shifting 4.5 million copies around the globe. The new versions will feature exclusive content, including "a completely new aspiration gameplay" and more options for customisation.

More excitingly, you'll be able to directly control your Sim from a third-person perspective, and console owners can have a go at two-player splitscreen gameplay. The handheld versions, meanwhile, will feature unique new storylines.

There's no sign of any screenshots as yet, but we'd bet a million fictional pounds that the game will go on show at E3 in May.
