Get your friends on Live, get a free game News

Xbox News by Tom Bramwell

18 November, 2004

With Halo 2 doubtless already boosting Xbox Live subscriptions around the globe, Microsoft is going for broke this month with the announcement that for every friend you can encourage to sign up for the Xbox online gaming service between now and January 31st 2005, you'll receive a free game of your choice.

And it's a decent selection too. Sign up a friend and you could get your hands on any of Midtown Madness 3, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, Counter-Strike, Links 2004, Sudeki, Ninja Gaiden, Fable, RalliSport Challenge 2, Project Gotham Racing 2, and Top Spin - and there's nary a disappointment among 'em, although we didn't think that much of Sudeki.

You can't argue with freebies, so if you can think of people you know who are likely to sign up for Xbox Live in the near future, check out the Friends For Live website and get ready to play.

That's not a free game 'of your choice', that's a free game 'from a limited list of Microsoft's choice'.

If I could be 100% sure that I wouldn't get banned once my modded xbox with deactivated chip signs on, I'd sign up in a shot. I just know there's a ton of PES players out there who could do with an education in the finer points of the game

Is this not open to abuse.....what's to stop me nominating myself (say, using my girlfriend's details and another Gamertag) when my free trial comes to an end?

Ah, but already have my starter kit, just using a free trial first. Anyway, the Ts and Cs say that it can't be used after use of the trial offer. Dunno whether changing your Gamertag would get round this.

Handily Enough, I have a starter kit, I just haven't fired it up yet (probably due to some latent fear of being creamed by a 12 year old). But now I get to see if I can get a free game for myself....

The problem with this scheme is that ppl who play on X-Box live dont have ahy friends, thats why they play strangers on XBox live instead of playing multi-player games with real friends.

It's a free game from the over-stock pile. Lets you know what didn't sell as well as expected.
