PS3 F.E.A.R. this November

Launch title?

Vivendi has confirmed reports that F.E.A.R. is coming out on PlayStation 3.

Currently in development at Day 1 Studios, in conjunction with original developer Monolith, Vivendi said that the PS3 port will be released in November - implying that it may be there at launch on the 17th.

Along with the original single-player game and multiplayer, Vivendi's promising exclusive single-player content - very likely along the lines of the Xbox 360 version's exclusives, which you can read more about in our E3 coverage.

And if you can't be bothered with that, you could always opt for the first PS3 screenshots instead. We'll bring you more on F.E.A.R. PS3 when we have it.

  • Dizzy #4 6 years ago

Furby? The textures are *much* lower res than the PC ones m8.

Almost looks PS2... better not release screenies like that.

    What were you guys expecting?

The ps3 to live up to the hype of being a super machine capable of pissing over every super pc out there?

    hahahahahaha...

    Some people never learn.

  • alpha-0ne #7 6 years ago

"Not interested. Sure the textures look higher res and the fire realistic and the modeling basic. I really hope next gen games are not simply low polly hires textures (aka PC games). "

Did you look at the screenshots?

They look much lower res and the oly count on the characters look smuch lower..
  • smelly #8 6 years ago

edit : just looked at shots.. holy shit they're crap!

They look like fear did on my low-ish spec pc with all the detail turned off!

Nah, don't worry, looks like they are low poly and with low-res textures (a trademark feature of console games).
  • Darkedge #10 6 years ago

looks alot shitter than on the PC - the 360 shots look much better.
    not impressed at all
  • smelly #11 6 years ago

Having been spoilt by Resident Evil 4 i wonder how long it will be before next gen can deliver at the same level. 2012 maybe ;)

Nah, next year.. on the wii.
  • Pac #12 6 years ago

RE4 is the only game for some time which really had the WOW factor for me in terms of graphics (and great gameplay for that matter).

I have yet to see any massive improvement in the quality of 360 or PS3 games as yet, which makes me think that processing power is only a small part of the equation.
  • Darren #13 6 years ago

Well that's great news for future PS3 owners I guess as F.E.A.R. on the PC was superb and the Xbox 360 version is looking every bit as tasty.
  • Steroyd #14 6 years ago

Oh joy yet ANOTHER FPS for the PS3's launch... where's the goddamn variety devs!!
  • smelly #15 6 years ago

Its not the devs fault that these are the only types of games which sell well.

If you want variety, get a wii.. but you wont as it'll be too "kiddy" apparently.

I'll put a disclaimer here even though people will ignore it..

NOTE: Im not dissing the other two, or being a nintendo fanboy... oh fuggit, no point you'll just read into this whatever and a big fanboy argument will start..
  • Steroyd #16 6 years ago

Smelly is fanboy of EVERYTHING *points finger* lol.

I'm a lazy arse so i'd prefer to use the traditional pad without rumble (rumble pisses me off sometimes) than flick my wrist... but then again If Sony's Motion sensing actually kicks off i'm buggered. :(
  • spongebob #17 6 years ago

Steroyd is right: where is the variety? It's even worse on X360 which seems to be another guys console. Hopefully MS will work on that.

(No, just Viva Pinata won't do).

The screenies do look pretty awful - the one of the little girl in particular is veering on the side of painfully embarassing.

However, they're first screenies and I don't know how difficult a PC->PS3 port is or how PC assets work on PS3. So it'll (probably) end up looking better. Moreover even if FEAR ain't your cup of tea the more titles on a system (especially at launch) the better.

    Still looks shit though ;).
  • kangarootoo #19 6 years ago

smelly was spot on when he said only certain game types sell a lot of units.

If people want variety, they need to buy variety. They don't, so they get what they ask for.

Even when a game seems like a really great new idea and it seems like everyone likes it and it seems like everyone knows about it, it still doesn't actually sell as well as it should (Locoroco being one example).

Devs have to make games that sell, or they quickly stop being able to make anything. Trying to place all the blame at the doors of publishers is to suggest that customers shouldn't have to engage their own minds and opinions when they go shopping, which is a bit crap surely.
  • smelly #20 6 years ago

    smelly was spot on

aww gawd.. what's going on with the world?

    better fix this.

    Erm...

    FEAR is CRAP!
    PS3 Rulez!

    Better?
  • smelly #21 6 years ago

Methinks someone hasn't played GRAW or Oblivion ;-)

Not played GRAW.. So i'll base this purely on oblivion..

Funny how resi 4 didnt need a 20 minute loading screen every time you clicked on a door...

Going off topic.. but i tried to play oblivion again last night.. I *WANT* to enjoy it.. but the length of time for the loads puts me right off...

If the future of gaming means that to get pretty pixels, i need to go back to spectrum loading speeds when i enter a room.. Then i'll stick with zelda..

  • Darren #22 6 years ago

Since Oblivion was patched the longest loading time I've encountered is when you first start the game (about 30-40 seconds) but typically it's no more than 10-20 seconds when you're entering building/rooms within the cities/towns and sometimes it's virtually instanteous, thanks to clever caching. That's the Xbox 360 version by the way... the PC version is even quicker on my setup as I have a fast hard drive and 2 GB of RAM.
  • kangarootoo #23 6 years ago

    @smelly

Hey man, I say it like I see it on all things. If you say something I think makes sense I'll say so, and if I think you are being a nob I tell you that too ;)

You know your onions on plenty of subects, so don't think that just 'cos I pull you up on your bonkers fanboy-accusation paranoia that I have written you off :D
  • smelly #24 6 years ago

DISCLAIMER : Never played oblivion on the xbox. But on my monster PC it takes forever to load...

Probs because i have the detail set higher than the 360 can cope with :-)

    (woyay!)
  • EmiliasHorse #25 6 years ago

    Pointless comment smelly.

I have a PC and it's this big!

  • Garibaldi #26 6 years ago

I'm amazed no-one has mentioned how godawful the Dualshock is for FPS games yet, I don't care if it looks ten-times *better* than the P.C version, unless Sony have made significant improvements on the analogue sticks there's no way I'd willingly purchase this genre for a PS3.
  • EmiliasHorse #27 6 years ago

Agreed Dual shock is arse for FPS. Xbox pad works a treat with the triggers and most importantly the moving of the left thumb stick to the top of the pad. Keyboard mouse is still the most accurate but after 4 years of slobbing out in front of the telly with my Xbox I now favour that for FPS.
  • kangarootoo #28 6 years ago

I'll second that. The PS2 dual shock sticks aren't a patch on the XB and 360 ones. Hoping for better things from the PS3 controller.
  • captainrentboy #29 6 years ago

I thought that the ps3's pad had more sensitive thumbticks, and that the dead zone on them was a lot smaller.I'm sure I read it somewhere :/Annnyway,bloody hell those screenies are awful,I think it'd be better to have no screenshots at all if they're that unimpressive, and just wait until the game is looking a whole lot prettier.
The 360 F.E.A.R ones surfacing lately look a lot nicer than they did a few months back.
  • ~j~ #30 6 years ago

360 version looks much better, and thats a fact. early signs that PC ports to PS3 will be a major headache for developers.
  • smelly #31 6 years ago

Nah.. Early signs that pc to 360 ports are a piece of piss.

Doesnt necessarily mean ps3 games headache, just that 360 games easier (As at the end of the day it's a pc with pc dev tools).

    FANBOYS NOTE : That's a GOOD thing.
  • Lex_Luthor #32 6 years ago

The game has always looked shit from what I've seen, but it's pretty hilarious how some of the people around here seem to be trying to convince themselves this is somehow representative of the PS3's visual capabilities :)
  • dredd97 #33 6 years ago

"The game has always looked shit from what I've seen, but it's pretty hilarious how some of the people around here seem to be trying to convince themselves this is somehow representative of the PS3's visual capabilities :)"

    That's fanboys for you ;)
  • smelly #34 6 years ago

    >The game has always looked shit from what I've seen

Erm.. As everyone on here knows. I thought that FEAR was a total waste of my money.

But to say it looked shit? WTF are you on? One of the best things it's got going for it is it's graphics! (As long as you had a shit hot enough pc to run it on!)

If you think that FEAR looks crap graphically, then there really is no hope, people REALLY cant percieve nice graphics nowadays. So maybe nintendo have a point with the wii. If something as technically impressive as fear is seen by some people as "looking shit" (as you put it), then maybe there isnt any point in having all that extra power?

    Hmm.

Re: F.E.A.R. indoor environments look amazing, outdoor environments look like arse. Overall a stunning looking game IMO and one of my all-time favourites. I'd buy a console version.
