Diablo, Starcraft go handheld? News

PSP DS News by Ellie Gibson

18 July, 2005

Fancy a bit of handheld Starcraft? Or how about portable Diablo II? Well, Blizzard is very much interested in your answer judging by the developer's latest newsletter.

It asks readers if they'd consider buying a Nintendo DS or Sony PSP version of Diablo II, providing a wireless multiplayer feature was included.

And Blizzard also wants to know if there's demand for Starcraft on the DS - but there's no mention of a PSP version.

So although nothing's been officially announced yet, it seems Blizzard is at least considering developing games for the handheld market. Course, they've published GBA titles before - namely The Lost Vikings, Blackthorne, Rock 'n' Roll Racing and The Lost Vikings - but those games were ported from oldies by US studio Mass Media.

We'll bring you more news as soon as we get it...

Rock and Roll Racing 2: Red Asphalt would be great on the PSP too, so long as they fixed the standard cheating racing AI.

For some unknown reason, this hadnt occurred to me yet. The DS is an absolutely ideal console for RTS games. I love RTSs on the PC, but any conversion Ive ever tried on a console Ive found to be near unplayable thanks to the lack of a mouse for input. Great idea!

/dreams of playing Starcraft and Diablo II on long train journeys...

R&RR 2 was a souless sequal that had nothing to do with the briliant original (wich is out for the GBA) and it should never be spoken about again, ever.

/imagines poking the ds pen at the screen 10 000 times a second to beat diablo.

hmmm.

/orders another 2000 DS handhelds.

On the DS perhaps, but the psp just doesnt have the controles to manage SC or D2! Remember SC on the n64? think even worse controles than that!

Put both of the diablo games on there, as a huge rpg extravaganza, that would be great. I do fear for the screen however, maybe make attack just a button press? (or is this too shocking a suggestion for the diablo hardcore, with their steroidal left finger of doOM!)

I actually spent most of Saturday playing Starcraft through (and Brood Wars) for the zillionth time. Only game I could ever beat other human beings at :) I bloody love it. The idea of playing it on a shitty little screen though with messed up controls etc strangely does NOT appeal. Starcraft has been around too long, all the keyboard shortcuts are hardwired in my brain. I could never adapt.

So where can you answer to this question? I really would like to see Starcraft on DS, Diablo has never really been anything special.

StarCraft on the DS would be absolutely amazing if it was online-enabled with Nintendo's upcoming DS online service.

Slash is in another timezone!

I would buy the GBA of RnRR version but I'm not sure if it keeps the cool music and voice stuff. maybe I should play it on the SNES emu instead as I've still got the original

I would definately buy SC DS though, hope they include a web based 4 player (at least) multiplayer and lots of new missions

What are you talking about? Starcraft is an, admittedly good, pretty standard RTS. Diablo is basically a genre of its own.

Aw man, imagine how much a handheld Starcraft would sell in Korea. They have PARADES for the game over there. That's flippin' ridiculous.

Lou! That's blasphemy!

Starcraft is not an ordinary "pretty standard" RTS, it's the perfect RTS. No other game in this genre has ever come close to it, Warcraft III included.

Shut up, TA fanboys!
