Gitaroo Man for PSP News

PSP News by Tom Bramwell

18 April, 2006

A PSP version of Gitaroo Man is in development according to Sony's Japanese retail site. Not only that, but it's due out on 25th May.

Called Gitaroo-Man Live!, the PSP version of the PlayStation 2 rhythm-action game is said to be "more balanced" than the original, with new gameplay modes, including wireless versus and co-operative "duet" options.

As before the game's been developed by INIS, best known around here for its recent work on brilliant Nintendo DS rhythm-action title Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, which we're still ordering you to import whether you're scared of the Japanese language or not.

KOEI, which published the original Gitaroo Man, has yet to officially announce of the PSP version, but with the game up on Sony's site we can probably expect to hear more whenever the next round of Japanese magazines shows up.

This is exciting news and I can't exactly say why.

I've never managed to get the hang of the PS2 version, infact I'm rubbish at all rhythm games. Defeated by Parappa the Rapper, Space Channel 5, both 1 and part 2, Um Jammer Lammy, I couldn't even clear the first stage in Gitaroo man.

But from today onwards the PSP has become a lot more interesting to me.

Cool, anyone know if this is a remake? If so I hope you can play the classic songs as well.

Personally, I'm hoping for new tracks (and a lot more of them!) with a few classics dropped in there for nostalgic purposes. I mean, Gitaroo-Man wouldn't be Gitaroo-Man without The Legendary Theme now, would it? :o)

If they later provide additional downloadable songs, it could be a winner...

Finally! I've been waiting for this kind of cheap cash-in that will blind me to the PSP's many, many failings as a handheld. Up until now all the other shameless, ham fisted remakes just haven't had that "omg i've suddenly lost the ability to follow sound logic!1!!" air about them.

Or... Here's another chance to sound smart through bitter bashing!
