Blazing Angels at PS3 launch

Using the tilty controller too.

Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII will be released alongside the PlayStation 3 on November 17, Ubisoft's announced.

Not only that, but it will make "innovative use of the PS3 controller" - suggesting there will be a tilt-controlled game at launch after all.

Like the Xbox 360 version, released earlier this year, Blazing Angels PS3 will take in the Battle of Britain, Pearl Harbor, Midway and the skies above Berlin as you swat each other in World War II planes.

Ubisoft's Romanian studio, putting it together at the moment, is also throwing in some new missions for the PS3 version, as well as 16-player multiplayer modes.

We didn't think much of the 360 version, to be frank, but Ubisoft clearly has big plans for the series.

Not only is it out on 360 and PC, and due to launch with PS3, but there's also going to be a Wii version launching next to Nintendo's new console later this year.

    I bet it's still shit.

    Hurrah. No, really.

Hopefully the PS3 version will solve the nast vSync problem from the Xbox 360 version.

    from the review:

All told, Blazing Angels is not a game you'll feel too happy about parting a lot of cash for

Hopefully the PS3 version will solve the nast vSync problem from the Xbox 360 version.

Well, with so much time to just fix bugs it bloody well should be.

Played the demo of this last night on the 360 and thought it wasn't to bad. What would work well, would be the tilt controller, in fact that would make it a completely different game from what I saw last night.

Judging turns was quite tough with the pad. Tilt controller should make it quite natural.
  • Whizzo #7 6 years ago

Unless the tilt controller completely changes the game design and gets rid of the terrible writing, I don't think the PS3 version is going to be any better than the 360 one.
  • gizmo #8 6 years ago

Played the 360 demo, and it was truly, truly shite.

Reminded me of public domain stuff.

The only application of the ps3 tilt sensor that appeals to me is leaing out from cover on an FPS.

Blazing Angels makes me think of Burning Rangers. I'm always disappointed when I realise that not only is it another WWII game, it's a really shit WWII game. Then I forget about it, only to be disappointed another day.
  • thinktank #10 6 years ago

This should fit in nicely with sony's usual range of 'quality' titles, just like full auto.

/feels bad for the cheap dig
  • Dizzy #11 6 years ago

So PS3 will have mostly multiplatform rehash launch titles?

BTW apparently this game is quite fun in multiplayer coop.
  • Balסּr #12 6 years ago

It's funny, I was just saying the other day that Sony was being snubbed by the big developers

Alright then, here's a port of a year old, shitty, 360 game. I suppose it could have been worse, it could have been Full Auto! :D

It doesn't magically become true if you keep saying it, Balor. You just look like an idiot.
  • ecureuil #14 6 years ago

With the PS3's controller, this was a no-brainer.

Think about it, Ubisoft are sitting there on this new, next-gen IP, that just happened to be a WWII flying game, Sony bring out the sequel to the best selling console of all time with a control scheme that seems made for flying game. They would be stupid NOT to put it on there. Yes, it sucks, but that doesn't matter to Johnny Idiot, your average lots-of-cash, shit-for-brains punter, who see's his shiny new 400 quid PS3, matches it up with the only launch game to utilise the motion controller and puts 2 and 2 together, since that's the limit of his mental capacity.

    Ubisoft are fucking geniuses.

Blazing Angels on the Xbox 360 was mediocre and I doubt tilt control will make it any better. What is it with the PS3 getting the lacklustre Xbox 360 castoffs, what with Full Auto and now this? What next? Over G Fighters? Chromehounds?

All these rubbish games are not doing anything to convince me to pre-order a PS3...
  • reality_cheque #16 6 years ago

if PS3 got Chromehounds I'd consider that a good thing, this however doesn't even deserve to be on the Phantom.
  • Zero Beat #17 6 years ago

Your guarded, pretending to be reasonable, trolling doesn't fool me Darren. ;P

As soon as PS3/360 games start performing better on PS3 you'll switch 'alliance' as usual. :D
  • Darren #18 6 years ago

Why would I have to switch "alliance as usual", Zero Beat, when I intend owning both an Xbox 360 and a PS3 eventually? Owning both consoles means that I can buy the best version of any multi-format game obviously (whichever format that might be) but my main reason for wanting a PS3 is for its exclusive games. It really doesn't matter whether the PS3's more powerful than the Xbox 360 or not, I will be buying one regardless. ;)

One thing's for certain though, I'll be buying the PS3 for its GOOD games not mediocre dross like Blazing Angels and Full Auto 2, no matter how technically superior they are on Sony's new machine!
  • tenma #19 6 years ago

Did anyone else laugh at Not only that, but it will make "innovative use of the PS3 controller"?

Lemme guess, tilting your controller will tilt the plain, maybe? Innovation points x 100!
  • Zero Beat #20 6 years ago

I know you'll get both Darren, my point is it's probably the 360 you'll be poking fun at before long because we're similar in many ways.. similar in wanting the best*.

For example when you get ideas that maybe PS3 will have less problems with games tearing, you often seem more positive about the PS3 and I see that being the case more and more as time goes on.

    *(but me more often ;)
  • Rambaldi #21 6 years ago

All that bitching about the 360 getting average launch window games...and the PS3 gets them all aswell at a higher price.

    LMFAO :)
  • Zero Beat #22 6 years ago

You have insider info on PS3 game prices do you? Do share!
  • Rambaldi #23 6 years ago

DVDs cost more than VHS. It makes complete sense (and is in line with Sonys attitude towards pricing) that a next gen storage format will cost more than an existing one.

  • Zero Beat #24 6 years ago

I think most people at least understand that the hardware inside the PS3 costs more than they're selling it at so the price although high for a games machine is defendable.

There's no possible way for Sony to defend £60 (highstreet price) games. It's unthinkable. They'll be £50 for non LE's at most, just like the 360.
  • Dire #25 6 years ago

Is full auto coming out on the ps3?
  • Xerx3s #26 6 years ago

Ubisoft are sitting there on this new, next-gen IP

Next gen IP? I seriously doubt that anyone there would even consider a sequel. This franchise died before it hit the stores.
  • Darren #27 6 years ago

@Zero Beat - Oh right, I see what you mean.

Yeah, you're probably right. I mean I was always singing the praises of the Xbox technically compared with the PS2 and I accept that the PS3 could well be technically superior to the Xbox 360. In fact, I'm hoping it is for the reason you mentioned, the fact that so many exclusive Xbox 360 games lately seem to have v-sync issues.

If that was the case then I'd certainly buy all my multiformat games on the PS3 rather than 360 and if that happened then the PS3 would become my format of choise, simply because 80% of any console's games are multiformat!
  • Zero Beat #28 6 years ago

The good thing about the current (last?) generation was the differing specs probably led to there being more exclusives and in my mind exclusives = more often than not better optimised for the platform it's on.

From a selfish, multiple-platform owning point of view, I hope that doesn't change too much this next-generation.
  • Rambaldi #29 6 years ago

    @Zero Beat

"I think most people at least understand that the hardware inside the PS3 costs more than they're selling it at so the price although high for a games machine is defendable"

Right, so that's why I'd buy a Ferrari 375 for 170k when I can get just the same performance from a Noble M15 at 70k?

Well, if I was that fussed about a label instead of bang for my buck, I guess I would
