id to spice up Quake 4 News

PC Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

17 July, 2006

The next major Quake 4 patch will make a number of changes based on "feedback from the people playing it the most," according to id Software.

The 1.3 "point release", due out sometime before QuakeCon (August 3rd), "will provide a faster, smoother, and more highly competitive experience," apparently.

id says it'll do that by increasing "mobility and control" and sorting out performance for people using ambient lighting options, and by making some weapon alterations.

The idea is to make the game more appealing to people who play it competitively, but also to make it more fun for new players, the PC developer says.

Whether any of this will be applied to the Xbox 360 version is unknown.

You can read more about id's patch plans over at idsoftware.com.

I did find Quake 4 a nice SP game, but didn't like much the MP... the greatest complain I had with it however, was that the textures looked shit when you looked at them at short distance. Even your weapon's texture wasn't that good. It was great looking in some places, and shabby looking in others. But I did like it, in a no-brain-shooter sort of way...

meh, quake 4 was even WORSE than the mess up which was FEAR.

long load time, just to watch an uninteractive lift sequence of a big monster attacking the lift? Then it comes to a halt.. and another long load time?

Get to feck.. Dull game.

We all still play Quake 3 at work. Was a short time of BF2, but we went back to the best.

Veteran FPS developers Id Software have announced that the next Quake 4 point release will completely patch the game to play exactly like quakeworld, and there was much rejoicing.

No mention of a mousefix for logitech mx 518s. Aside from getting a new mouse, that is.

The phrase "Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted" is apt.
