GTA PSP named, dated

Not long to go...

Sony Europe boss David Reeves has confirmed at a European press briefing here in Los Angeles that Grand Theft Auto PSP is in fact now known as Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and will be released in Europe soon after the PSP launch on 1st September.

There has been speculation in the past that the PSP Grand Theft Auto title could well simply be a remake of the original PlayStation 2 version, which was also set in Liberty City. Sony hasn't confirmed that, mind you, but the "Liberty City Stories" subtitle will keep the rumour mill turning in that direction.

It's highly likely that GTA PSP will be shown off at E3 behind closed doors, so we'll let you know if anything else emerges.

So the PSP really is a handheld PS2?

    Great.
  • Khab #2 7 years ago

    Meh. Been there, played that...

If they'd done San Andreas I might've been interested.

The GBA GTA was a bit crap - it mimicked the original GTA's (1+2) quite poorly. Are we to see a better version on the PSP?
  • dadrester #4 7 years ago

rockstar have said that it'll be a completely new game, not a direct port of gta3
  • louyfitz #5 7 years ago

That game is pant pissingly exciting.
    I need a PSP now!
  • Nikanoru #6 7 years ago

I'm not sure this is the kind of game you have a quick go at while riding the bus home - more like a game you sit down with for a while. Then again, I suppose most people use their PSP as a PS2 anyway. The very reason I'm not buying one. :)

(mind you, I'm not buying any new handhelds period)

September launch apparently. If a European launch game this thing is going to fly off the shelves.

Yeah, cos it's really easy to take a ps2 and a widescreen TV on to the train to play wipeout on.
    What a silly comment.

If you're really determined to prove a point it's easy to do all of the above, yes :)

its also useful when the wife is watching crap TV and she is sick of me sitting upstairs on halo 2. it counts as together time while i get another lap record on ridge racer.

is GTA coming out sooner for us lucky sods with a PSP already?

if the psp doesnt get some killer apps shown at E3 then i'm starting to see the plaform fade amongst all the rehashes.. i mean, what do the owners have to look up to? more lumines?
  • Floppy #12 7 years ago

Yes, because that's just what Sony's going to do... let the PSP drift into obscurity.
  • #13 7 years ago

Man! Look at this dozy twat!

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe executive vice-president Phil Harrison predicted a strong launch, describing the UK cost as a "killer price point".

£180 a killer price point? For a portable PS2 and software that costs twice as much?

What his definition of a 'killer' price point for the 'super computer' PS3? £400? Dickhead!

Mmmm, the price alone means I will (eventually) be going for the Nintendo DS.

That really is the most PROFOUND thing I've said all day!
  • trevd72 #15 7 years ago

i bought mine for £130....that is a good price. and £27 for a game with free postage is good too. £180 is too much. i would have waited....thanks god for no region locking and lik-sang

Yeah right of course it is. No one else releases sequels do they.
Pursuit Force, Burnout, GTA and SOCOM for starters will help shift a helluva lot of PSPs.

how will the psp batery life cope with a game like GTA thats constantly streaming off the disk??
  • #18 7 years ago

I'd let you know but even though I sold more GTA: San Andreas than any other store in the UK the conversation went like this.

    Me: Can I come in?

Booth Bimbo : Have you got an appointment?

Me: No but I do have on of theses. (shows VIP badge)

    Booth Bimbo: No sorry

Me: Ah right, do you have a promotional assets disk?

Booth Bimbo : We're not supposed to give them out.....(She looks at boxes and boxes of disks)

Me: Do you have another stand?

    BB: No.

Me: Have you heard of Action Replay?

    BB: No

Me: Can I touch you a little bit?

    BB: Here have a disk.

Me: Thank you if you're ever in the UK ask for the King of the Indies and I'll be there for you.

    BB: (smiles)

Me: Are you sure I can't touch you?

    BB: SECURITY!

*Some of the above may not be true!

it will be intresting to see if the PSP can handle a full blown 3D grand theft auto.. and if so, i wonder how big. i guess the UMD formatt would be the limiting factor in that thou?.

would be nice as a lauch title for europe :)
  • Burton2000 #21 7 years ago
