D/L'ed it last night and tried 3 times. It kept saying it was joining a session, but never actually connected. Had to keep dropping back to the dashboard to get out of it. Will try again tonight.

Seemed to take forever to D/L too.

I failed to connect to any online games (no local network issues honestly). If you completely fail to get in, you can have a look around on System Link mode. Will try the online game again tonight.

There are various problems online on this game. Ubisoft restricted the online match search. You can't make matches private for example.
People can't lock or make their room private, quite in fact, they can't host a room themselves. For now all you can do is press a quick match button and wait. With any luck, you'll be the host. With lesser luck you will not be the host, and the host will kick you because he is trying to get his friends in the room. In other words, because Ubisoft decided to lock the option to make a room private (to make people buy the game), they fucked up the quick match for everyone trying the demo, because most hosts are just trying to invite their friends over and they kick you as soon as you get in the room - and since you can only use quick match (for Coop and Versus) - they fucked up the demo for everyone pretty much.

When they don't kick you, it's because they are about to end the session. Which is a good change of pace. After 6 or 7 you were kicked by the host messages, it is nice to be greeted with a the host ended the session message.
And then, there are times it doesn't get to load the room at all, it stays on the loading screen, but that's just the way of the game telling you "Give it up bud, it's not like you'll be playing this tonight"

All in all, I wasn't able to try out the game online yet, despite insisting for half an hour. Went back to PSU, I did, the beta will end soon =(

Tried this last night. The co-op mode seemed a bit repetative but quite fun for a while. I guess there woulkd be more game variations in the full version. I didn't view any of the tutorial videos so I was faffing around a bit at the start working out what to do (my own daft fault obviously). Didn't try versus mode.

Some co-op missions a bit more story based would have been nice though. Overall the co-op missions just felt like your standard multiplayer, but with one team being all bots. Maybe the dull game will have more options (though I wouldn't expect it given the way the SC sp and mp versions tend to be standalone made by different teams).

Yeah, what's with the MP only demo? Where's the single player?

Hehe.

"Yeah, what's with the MP only demo? Where's the single player?"

Ubi have studios in different parts of the world and generally for the SC games the single and multiplayer versions are seperate applications worked on by different teams. They share a common front end launcher, but you are really getting two similar but seperate games.

That is perhaps why we have seen seperate demos in this case (and with some other Ubi titles such as GRAW).

At first i thought it was a problem at my end, then i read at several sites that loads of people couldn't connect.

I actually tried it for 1 hour, then found out you could do system link and play against bots. Kinda nice, bloody hard to succeed though. Them mercs can spot you pretty, pretty, pretty fast and they can headbutt you as well (why THAT is an option, i dunno...kinda weird to see a heavily armed guard pick you up and headbutt you, instead of just shooting, but aye).
I noticed a lot of people being very negative about this game..too mainstream, too unbalanced, ugly... i disagree. But then again..i never played SC online before:-)

Hopefully i will, at some point, be able to actually go online.

I have only managed to connect to two games online, it just sits there saying Joining game session... Then I have to sign out of xbox live and sign back in to be able to do anything.

And I couldn't even connect to the PSU server :(

I can't decide whether they fundamentally broke the versus game with this. it was one of the greatest things ever when it worked (i.e. when you got players willing to play in the right spirit). now they've made it so spies absolutely cannot go aggro, but cheapened the stealth mechanics in favour of scampering about and 'acrobatics'

Well I managed to try the game (at least look at the tech and try out the 2 sides) on my own with just Xbox Live silver (creating my own game did it).

The graphics moved smoothly and the control felt nice and tight, it was quite a free flowing afair compared to the older PC versions. The lighting seemed a little bit washed out and there was nothing graphically that blew we away though. As I couldn't try the gameplay against real people I can't comment on any flaws but it seemed as if it would be decent (with friends anyway).
