BF2 patch delayed

They found a bug.

EA has walked back the Spanish announcement that Battlefield 2's 1.4 patch would be released yesterday, revealing that a problem discovered during "final processing" led to an unexpected delay.

"As many of you are now aware we have made the choice to take some extra time with the 1.4 patch before release," said an EA community bod sweeping low over the internet. "During our standard final processing of the 1.4 client update we came across an issue that, although it does not compromise stability, we felt needed to be addressed in order to meet our goal of improving the overall player experience," the statement continued, before rolling into an advisory about the dangers of downloading beta patches.

Expect more information on the 1.4 patch, which Comcast will certainly be waiting for as it includes their sponsored Road to Jalalabad map, and its contents in due course. One thing you can emulate now without the need to wait is the "no-vehicles" server setting. To experience this, walk.

Is it me, or is the BF series the most buggy game series ever?

I concur, I've never had even close to the amount of problems with any other online game. The frequent yet inexplicable connection drops (sometimes as often as every few minutes), the regular sound issues, the locking up, the crashing to desktop, it's all there!
It's got to the point that I feel the game is often unplayable online, which kind of defeats the object really. With any other game I'd just relegate it to the cupboard, but it's just such a great game when it's actually working that each time I've given up on it, I end up going back to it a few weeks later.
I suppose the delay with 1.4 is a good thing in that they are obviously trying to get everything sorted that's physically possible.
I suspect though that it will be the last patch we see, as the Beta testing has begun for Battlefield 2142 and they'll be concentrating on that now.

I recently tried to install this game on my hugely superior work PC, and, well - I couldn't

After installing BF2, Special Forces, Euro Force, Armoured Fury and then patch 1.3 - It would only run in 800x600 low detail and would NOT let me change those settings. Shame, as it was running on a 1920x1200 widescreen GeForce 7800.
Figuring this was a random bad install I tried *two more times* failing each time. In every instance, patch 1.3 simply wouldn't update the game to 1.3, and Special Forces and patch 1.3 had errors during installation more than twice.
    It's a shambles.
When the game runs, its good fun - and just the sort of thing I like. But the game build is no better than a rickety house build on stilts, having to survive regular floods of patches and updates, that often just bring it crashing to the ground.

I have to agree with Stuarty_2003 about the appalling buggy state of the BF games. It's forever being patched and yet it still remains glitchy and a tad unstable. How come the developers haven't got a decent version of the game up and running yet, it's been out nearly a year, hasn't it?

Maybe if they actually finished the damn games before releasing them and rushing on with making the next game in the series, they might not have to patch them so much! LOL

It's probably the buggiest popular game sure, there's loads which are much worse...but damn it's worth it, the Battlefield games remain my choice of online shooter by far as they do with many. Give me intelligent BF over elitist CS any day of the week.

They are particularly buggy, but what makes it hilarious, is how badly they keep patching the damn thing! It's becoming a bit of a joke.

It's the funnest bug-ridden game I've played. It still takes me 10 minutes, literally, from clicking on the desktop icon until I can actually shoot at people online. Awful, awful interface, awful, glacially slow login servers and awful load times, but I keep coming back for more!

It could be worse... it could be <a href=http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=59379&g t;Boiling Point</a>!

Some of the patch notes from that:
    - Collision : grenades do not remain stuck in walls when launched, prisoners do not remain stuck in walls when delivered, tree have collisions.
    - Windows look like dark squares when it rains
    - White square from car lights are no more visible on GeForce cards, white square is no more visible around moon at some days

... and it used to have flying jaguars. Literally. Flying.

BF2 is buggy, but not as bad as some, all considering...

    Most incomplete games EVER released!

Anyone who buys this or Battlefield 2142 is accepting a game in its BETA stages.

The worst EA has to offer.

    Buggy? Aye.
    Fun? Hell yes!

Imagine how good it'll be when they finally release a bug-free version!

Imagine how good it'll be when they finally release a bug-free version!

Hah! Keep wishing - they're just dying to ditch it and get on with the next game.
