Allard's biking injury won't affect Xbox 360 launch

Not THAT surprising, but still.

As some of you may have heard, Microsoft executive and Xbox 360 point-man J Allard had a nasty fall last week while mountain biking. Poor chap took a tumble and broke his left arm's radius and scaphoid, and cracked a couple of ribs too.

Well, the good news, according to vocal Xbox team blogger Major Nelson, is that it won't affect the launch of the console. Which isn't hugely surprising, but you never can tell what the frothing faithful will believe given half a chance.

According to Nelson, who also has some pictures Allard took of his injuries using a camera-phone, it was a pretty nasty fall, but he seems to be okay. Indeed, Allard's biggest complaint is apparently that it's very hard to type his emails out with one hand - so much so that he's looking for a good predictive text driver for his PC.

It may not affect the launch of the console, then, but it's going to cause him trouble if he wants to go online and show people who's in charge when Xbox 360 launches in late November. We wish him a speedy recovery.

  • ralphwolfenstein #3 7 years ago

I'd stick to skateboarding round the office...
  • Tyronne #4 7 years ago

Will this `hilarity` ever end ohhh its so funny its almost as funny as a episode of last of the summer wine. You can almost hear the funny `boing`noise as he fell of the bike.

In other news, a wasp just flew into the EG offices.

Kristan swatted it with a rolled-up copy of The Sun though.

This isn't thought to affect the release date of the XBOX 360 or PS3.

Wow guy! He's like so RAD, like totally MAXED OUT DUDE - so COOL doing all these COOL sports!

And then he fell on his arse.

Does he really deserve much sympathy?

So, the Zen of gaming will now be presented by a crippled?

What he does in his own time doesnt really bother me much. Who gives a h***** a***? But then again, its nice to know that some executives arnt all that dull. Anyway, why post this 'news'?
  • sickpuppysoftware #9 7 years ago

Why no comment on the main concern?

    Will he ever dance again?
  • Jontacular #10 7 years ago

A spin and a tweak too far, methinks. And then he goosed it.

Where's the Balor post in this thread, linking to the GameSpy coverage of John Carmack praising the X360 design (after receiving a large brown envolope) and ranting about how much he dislikes Eurogamer?
  • #13 7 years ago

"this was an article about J Allard falling off his mountain bike, injuring his arm and some ribs, not exactly news worthy, but it's a microsoft exec being the victim of ill fortune, so sony sponsored eurogamer ran the story, tacking on a line at the end that Allards accident won't effect the 360's launch, and thus making it possibly newsworthy. | People really do dislike Eurogamer and their meagre attempts at leveling criticisms of the 360!

Give it up EG, you're really scraping the barrel now.

Keep the barrel scrapings coming please - they're just fine.
  • drumbaby #15 7 years ago

Yo, dat Allard is so squiggly and ting! Me is down wit' dat gnarly BMX bandit homie and I'se his X80>
  • Syrette #16 7 years ago

nice to see people using this as an excuse to put down Microsoft and J Allard. don't forget that this articles comes from a blog and it was EG's decision to make it 'newsworthy' on here. i like Allard, but in all honesty while i sympathise with him i don't think it was particularily worth making a story out of this. frankly, who cares?

/insert joke about MS execs "crashing"
  • brombeer #21 7 years ago

I thought Microsoft did have voice recognizing software. Guess it didn't work, then? It *crashed*? Well, you shouldn't tempt fate, Allard. He was probably trying to reach a Zenith in Zen....

In another news. A package boy running past Sony building went for a pee. According to Sony, it doesn't affect the launching of PS3

Sorry for ripping, PES_Fanboy. Just thought that one, had to get it out.

I don't see anyone putting down MS for this. Just basic joking about someone getting hurt, and EG making a news out of it.

What has this guy done to receive such hatered from so many people?

Hate is a strong word. But the guy had some ridiculous 'queer-eye' make-over, and then started talking like an MTV VJ from the 90's, and went from chubby comb-over nerd to teenager within a few weeks. I don't think he's even the same guy when I study the photos.

And have you not seen the 'You are our colony' 360 PR video? Did you miss the E3 presentation where Allard, Moore, and some other twunt were just shy of a full-on Charlies Angels pose when they got on the stage? And then Allard lays on the floor demonstrating the front-end because he's too cool to stand, and all this gets whoops and cheers from the oh-so-obvious rent-a-crowd that are no less fake than Allards own image.

I love what the guy's done with Xbox, but every word he says is written by some yoof-style PR department.
  • captain-future #24 7 years ago

Hahaha, ok that was uncalled for. Hope he gets well soon.

BTW: I like that "Play.com" logo on the left column much better than the other shop before.

Allard on a mountain bike.......eeeewwwwwww the horror!
  • Scimarad #27 7 years ago

For some bizarre reason I keep reading this as "Allard's bikini injury" :-)
  • KraftWerk #28 7 years ago

Why would it affect the launch? Did he plan on shipping them manually with his bike?
  • sumanai #29 7 years ago

    Scimarad, eww, just eww.

KraftWerk, I think it's a joke. Not a good one necesseraly, but still a joke.

    edit:
Scimarad, thank you, now I read it "bikini injury" as well.
