Activision confirms two PSP launch titles

Although when we'll get them is another matter.

Activision has confirmed that it plans to release PlayStation Portable versions of Spider-Man 2 and Tony Hawk's Underground 2 alongside the hardware when it launches in the USA.

Spider-Man 2, developed by Vicarious Visions, and THUG2, underway at Shaba Games, will both line-up alongside the system and are now amongst its only confirmed launch titles - as Sony continues to evade the question of when the handheld will come out specifically.

"SCEA's PlayStation Portable Entertainment Platform is an exciting new platform that combines processing power with a sleek new look that will appeal to an older demographic," said Kathy Vrabeck, president of Activision Publishing.

"By matching our top brands like Tony Hawk's Underground 2 and Spider-Man 2 with the new entertainment device, we are able to broaden our consumer base and leverage our franchises into new areas," she added.

Activision also plans to release Spider-Man 2 alongside the Nintendo DS in the USA on November 21st, but for now at least we're still left to speculate when and where we'll actually get to play with the PSP first. Although Sony maintains that the console will be released this year, we're still without specifics on date, pricing, launch line-up, and question marks still linger on issues like battery life.

Are these going to be new games or just ports of the PS2 versions?

edit: 'Cos if there ports I couldn't think of anything more boring than playing the same games again.

any idea on whether these are going to be region locked or anything?

the SDK has region locking as an option, im hoping it'll only be used for media content and not for games - but you never know.

Ports of PS2 games will not be the death of the PSP. What do you think the gaming masses want? innovation does not sell, surely you know that. I'm sure the developers are fully aware that an exact same version of Spiderman2 on the PSP will not be bought those who already own that game on the XBox/Gamecube/PS2.

Which of the forthcoming DS ports do you see as most "innovative"?

Feel the Magic, Pac Pix, Yoshi's Touch & Go

I'm not saying that the PSP is going to be crap, but ports of games that I played a couple of months previously don't excite me as I consider those titles finished with. Plus if the same version is released for PS2 and PSP then I'll only buy the PS2 version, not two copies of the same game.

I like playing ports of SNES games on my SP because there has been a few years gap and I enjoy revisiting classics. Simple really.
