High-Def DOOM movie trailer

Rock! (Actor. No other meaning.)

Going to Mars? Don't bother taking any cheese. Judging by the recently released trailer for the DOOM movie, which is available download now as a High Definition video, there's plenty to go around.

Of course, we've no idea whether the film will be good or bad. We have suspicions, but they're mainly to do with the lack of fountains of Hellish gore in the trailer. If the full film has Hell, lots of big scary demons that don't look at all like men-in-suits-with-four-buglike-eyes-QUICK-RUN and, dunno, they fire half the cast, it might be brilliant.

It's definitely more DOOM III than the others though - heck, it looks like they only have one flashlight, for a start. Heck I tells ya. Take a look anyway. It'll give you something to talk about in the pub, and then back away from occasionally reloading your glass.

For those of you without the capacity to view the High-Def version, there are streaming alternatives on the official DOOM movie website.

first...and probably last to even bother with this.

Apparently, the doom movie has nothing to do with either Mars or Hell. Therefore removing all the plot from a game and making a movie about it.

    Marvelous.

"Planet: Mars. In a distant research facility the last 10% of the human genome has just been discovered!"

"Completed in 2003, the Human Genome Project (HGP) was a 13-year project coordinated by the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Institutes of Health."

    They're already here!

The movie has a 5 minute first person sequence in apparently. Whether thats a good or a bad thing though...

    Completely wrong.

I honestly think this could be an entertaining movie. It's not going to win any awards, but it doesn't look like a low budget cash in, and it could have some pretty tense/scary moments. Plus I love the Rock. >_>

Partially wrong. There are no religious references. It's more Resident Evil than anything.

But that's a pretty big change though, no paranormal stuff or hell demons. That's pretty much what the entire game is about, change that is like removing the cars from the Fast 'n the Furiouse or Star Wars without lightsabers.

Why did they remove the Hell stuff anyway? Tons of horror films have used Hell and satanic imagery in the past...

    Straight to video methinks.

.::: It has the potential to make even Uwe Boll cry.

I'm always amazed at how movie-reditions of games tend to suck out every last detail concerning the games, littering not even a handful recognizable gimmicks to 'keep the connection alive'.

This is why the Mortal Kombat movie is still the best game-to-movie conversion in my mind. It never tried to twist the original source into something it ain't. I understand that directors want to do their own thing, but sometimes they forget the audience they cater for and screw it upbeyond salvation.
I do not have much hope for Doom, if any.

Will the main hero have to swap between his flashlight and his weapon during the film?

I've seen an early version of the first-person section. It's very cool. I was a bit disappointed to find out that the rest of the film wasn't first person as well...

Agreed Cyhwuhx - Mortal Kombat was fun 'cos it felt just like the game come to life; didn't try to invent ridiculously elaborated background storylines for each character that couldn't be described in more than 1 sentence. Oh and it had amazing sets & really cool bg music (damn now i've got those orchestral hits playing in my head)

They removed the Hell stuff because you can't reference religion in American movies and get away with it. The Christian Rights group will be in uproar over this sort of this. I completely disagree with it, and they should shut their ****ing mouths, but they have production studios running scared. For Pullman's "His Dark Materials" movies, they have cut ALL religious references out of it! The whole bloody book is about religion. It's all because America is run by a bunch of fundamentalist Christians (ie. the evil kind) so as soon as the democrats are back in, we might have a Doom movie with references to hell.
