Resi 4 Chainsaw Controller coming to the UK News

GameCube News by Tom Bramwell

15 February, 2005

"Wild Things Interactive Ltd is pleased to announce the UK launch of the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller," says this 'ere press release. Not half as happy as we are - having agonised for literally several minutes before deciding not to import it last month.

So: hurrah! Resident Evil fans who haven't succumbed to the lure of a US import in the past four weeks will soon be able not only to enjoy the charms of the best Resident Evil game in ages; they'll also be able to look like a prize plum with a plastic chainsaw-shaped GameCube pad perched in their laps too.

Never mind the fact that Leon doesn't make much use of a chainsaw during the course of Resident Evil 4; those villager bastards do, and we're happy to help celebrate their one-hit-kill tactic of brutally decapitating us by throwing money at silly peripherals. According to chums Simply Games, you can expect to pay around £40 for one on 1st April - and can head here to set up a pre-order.

Interestingly, Wild Things tells us that the controller's splattered blood effect is random. Thus no two units are exactly the same, which certainly appeals to our inner klepto. We'll certainly aim to get hold of one soon and tell you more about it when we do. In the meantime, here are a few shots of the unit and the packaging. Our Resident Evil 4 review can be found here.

"What's that?"

"Oh, those are my bongos for Donkey Konga."

"Right. Nintendo's just a kid's console isn't it?"

"Well, let me show you my other specialist controller."

Yep, each unit is said to have different splatterings of blood for even more "unique" value.

Too bad the controllers themselves seem awfully crappy and uncomfortable, this seems like the collector's item of the decade.

Gimmick maybe, but a funny little gimmick. I also resisted importing the controller as well (although I was so sorely tempted), so I am really glad to see it coming to our shores.

It's not so much sick, as just plain outrageous. I find the idea of this controller very humourous and clever - it may be a little unwieldly as a controller, but hey, it's something to show off to your friends! ^^

So is it just a chainsaw-shaped GameCube controller then? Aw! I'll stick with my Wavebird for now.

Now, if it was a proper chainsaw peripheral that made noises and you could kill stuff be waving it about in the air in front of you... that'd be cooler.

It does look nice but have you seen how small it looks once in someone's hands? Some how I expected it to be a bit bigger.

I think it's like those Miniture Teapots shaped like houses - the people who buy them may use them once or twice, but really they're buying it for the collection, to complete a set. The controller I think just looks kinda cool and very funny, I'd buy it just to keep in the box and put away somewhere (rather like the Pokemon N64 I have in the loft) - or heck, I have space now so I might even put it on display next to the Gamecube itself! ^^

It's just that kinda thing to me... usable? Not really. Collectors piece? Probably. Looks cool? Hell yeah!
