Splinter Cell 4 named

Has Sam really been naughty?

Sam Fisher's next outing will be called Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Ubisoft's revealed, with more details due to be unveiled soon.

It's due out on consoles and PC this coming spring, with an Xbox 360 version also in development, and it sounds like all the viral marketing-fuelled chatter about Sam going rogue is, perhaps predictably, part of a ploy to infiltrate a nasty terrorist group. Presumably while on smack.

Fisher's been banged up the slammer, as it goes, but he'll break out and that'll help him get a foothold in the underworld, which will probably suit him what with all the shadows.

Appropriately enough, there's some more information lurking in the darker corners of the Internet, and we'll have lots of our own in the very near future.

Where can I find the appropriate press release? :o

Ubi are really churing out their franchises at the moment - 3 POP games in as many years, must be a similar figure for Splinter Cell too.

oh dear, darker and edgier sounds like Ubisoft are quite limited with ideas.
They did the same thing to Prince of Persia Warrior Within and look how badly that turned out.

Could go either way to be honest. There's always been a dark side to Sam Fisher, so it could fit in with the series rather than being a thinly veiled attempt to make it appeal to da kidz.

These games are OK, I just get fed up of having to do them all with Night vision goggles on!

Would be nice if I could admire the graphics etc NOT through a green hue!

    I think it sounds great.

I might be the only one.

This is not as obviously as bad an idea as making PoP darker. SC is plenty dark anyway, plus playing as a double agent puts me in mind of alias, which can only be a good thing...

Universal Hamster - i really hope you are talking about the TV programme and not the game. The game was awful.

I'm actually a little jaded with the whole 'stealth' thing.....really enjoyed the first 2 SC games, but by the 3rd one the whole mechanics and gameplay seemed a little 'tired' despite all the extras and pretties.

Without wishing the series to stray too far from it's roots, it would be nice if they could update it slightly......

    /keeps fingers crossed

Yay.. another Tom Clancy game featuring "terrorists"... how original :|
  • jlaakso #12 6 years ago

"Another Tom Clancy game featuring terrorists." Well, yes, I think that's sort of the point. (Tom Clancy's) Ghost Recon may have taken on foreign governments and rebels, but Sam Fisher's pretty solidly in the anti-terror camp.

All enemies are terrorists.. yes yes...

But anyway... hope they will introduce something new gameplay-wise, the first SS was great IMO, but the two sequels only enhanced the graphics side of things.

Turning up the brightness on the TV solved that for me :-)

I've never played a single splinter cell game. Are they any good?
  • Cronan #17 6 years ago

The games are good. Like the previous poster I enjoyed the first two but was bored with the whole Sam FIsher stealth thing by the third.

My guess for the plot of this is that it will be like one of those bad thrillers:

"Sam Fisher is sent to jail for murder .. but really he's been put inside to catch a criminal"

    Not much tension ensues ...
