Jade Empire 2 on Xbox 360? News

Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

14 November, 2005

Bioware joint CEO Dr. Ray Muzkya has reiterated the company's plans to continue the Jade Empire series - and on Xbox 360.

Speaking in an interview with US website Xbox-Evolved, Muzkya said, "Bioware definitely plans to continue the Jade Empire franchise." He went on to imply that it was to be an Xbox 360 game.

Muzkya said the company was working on two 360 titles - the other is known to be Mass Effect, which was unveiled during X05 last month.

This isn't the first time Muzkya has spoken about Bioware's plans to continue with Jade Empire beyond the highly-rated Xbox original. Speaking at the European Games Network last September, he told our sister-site GamesIndustry.biz, "This is a new IP, and there are going to be follow-on products - sequels and other things, absolutely."

"Our IPs, we have a long plan for - this is a rich world, and there are all these parts around the periphery of the empire that we haven't even touched on. There are lots of cool adventures still in the works."

We'll bring you more on Jade Empire's successor whenever we hear it. To see what Bioware's already up to on Xbox 360, take a look at our Mass Effect screenshots.

Right, calll me thick if you have to, but what the hell does 'IP' stand for in the context of this article?!? I've read it a few times in articles recently, but haven't been able to fathom out the meaning.

@Fatfish: Are you being sarcastic?
IP stands for Intelectual property in any case.

@ Tonka - why would I be sarcastic? I honestly didn't know. Never made the association between the phrase and the acronym. I do of course fully understand what intellectual property means, just don't know why they choose to abbreviate it in such a way? Seems an odd thing to abbreviate - why not shorten other copyright/patent terms........such as 'copyright'??

And are you being sarcastic (or ironic) by incorrectly spelling 'Intellectual'?? ;)

Thanks for clarifying it though.

So when is someone going to create a free type of rpg for a console where the fights work exactly like in Baldurs Gate with pausing and a free camera.

What I was trying to get at was that some IP's are of such a low standard that the word Intellectual shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. Not trying to have a go at you in any way.

As for the typo, it was just a typo. (and still is since I hate think the bold 'Edited X times blah blah blah' looks ugly)

Tihs typo however...

JE had so much potential and lived up to many parts of it and yet was....utterly boring. And the SNES shoot em up sections? Ha ha!

That little C in a circle is an abbreviation of "copyright", TM is "trademark", a little R in a circle is an abbreviation of "registered trademark" (I don't know what the difference is between those last two).

I rather liked Jade Empire in a "I know pretty much what to expect" kind of way. Sometimes good execution makes up for originality (I'm not saying JE is wholey unoriginal BTW). Along those lines, "Obscure" is a great example of a Res Evil rip off that is for the most part just really well done.

I'd rate Jade Empire as 'okay' with a few really nice touches. I really liked the home dimension of the fox spirit, for example...

For the ppl with a 'happy' view of life, it is. ^_^

Im affraid that its a lost art of making games.

"JE had so much potential and lived up to many parts of it and yet was....utterly boring. And the SNES shoot em up sections? Ha ha! "

Dunno about you, but i thought JE was one of the best games this year. Thought that it was way better than kotor anyway (but thats my oppinion).

Jade Empire was pretty much an incredible world, with a strong story, and memorable characters, that was let down by game mechanics that rarely rose above sufficiently entertaining. this is a huge shame, and I hope they can rectify that in the sequel while preserving everything I genuinely loved about the first game.

I agree with Yossarian, the story, world and characters (i.e. the IP) where fantastic but the action stopped it from being a classic. I think in the end they made it too simple, i spend most of my time jumping over people and hiting them. They need to add more depth.

Am I the only one who thought that JE and Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door (PM from now on) had a lot in common.
They both had
*Just three stats that improved your character.
*A system where badges(PM)/stones(JE) improved your stats and/or tweaked your luck, encounters, looting skills.
*A way to make battles more realtime(well in JE they are realtime)

If JE had pulled these three off with the same flair as PM it would have been a truly classic game. As it stands now I can only agree with Yossarian.

Jade Empire was the biggest disappointment this year (after Fahrenheit). Way too linear, not really an RPG at all despite the hype. Not excited by sequel.

I downloaded the game when it came out, and didn't give it more than 10 minutes of play before I gave up. I really didn't like it.

Now I just recently sold my modded xbox and got myself an unmodified - just to force myself to buy the games I play. So, I traded away my Ridge Racer PSP for Jade Empire and Nintendogs (for *ahem* my wife). Well, I had the game again, and thought I'd give it another go (besides, I really like the feeling of playing a game you own instead of something you've downloaded), and I'm having a great time with it. I mean, it's not much of an rpg, even less than KotOR, but as an adventure game with a few rpg-elements in it, and the ability to choose your own path it's a great game. The shoot'em up bits were fun, I don't think those were supposed to be taken so seriously. The game's quite humorous at times.

So, I will probably get Jade Empire 2 too when it comes out. This time I'll probably know what to expect, so I won't be as dissapointed. If I am, then it's because it's a bad game.

And regarding Star Wars rps, wouldn't it be nice if they decided to make a KotOR style games that went through all the chapters in the movies, but with the ability to go a different path as Anakin Skywalker? I mean, if you go the light side, you'll have a whole different story and someone else will end up being the bad guy, but if you fall to the dark side of the force, you'll have the "true" Star Wars story. Wouldn't be KotOR, but I know I would've loved it.

They could even make a deal to include Epidose VII, VIII and IX too.
